Wedding venue West Rand deposit refunds???

Anybody have trouble getting their deposits/ full payments back for weddings that couldn't take place last year ?
Family member had to cancel a May 2020 wedding and paid in full in January 2020
Venue is humming and haaing with loads of stalling tactics.
Not penny , h'penny amount either !!
Krugersdorp/ Muldersdrift area.
Any advice ?

Get a lawyer to send a letter of demand?

Note that many venues do have insurance for cancellation of bookings so they may not lose out on much.
