hi all,
i wonder if someone could please give me some advice on this issue. i know its a long post but please bare with me. here's my issue. i have a 4mb adsl line and it is syncing at 4mb. i cannot get more than 0.45 download speed from speedtest.org. all my downloads are no more than 45kb/sec from local or international regardless of download protocol (even http). this has been since friday morning (the seacom maintanence only started yesterday).
i have tried an mweb uncapped account, as afrihost month-month capped account, a saix unshaped account and a webafrica prepaid international account. i tried 2 different brand routers (1 was brand new). i tried ethernet and wireless. i tried 3 computers, my windows 7 box, my ubuntu laptop and a freshly built/installed windows 7 box.
ALL OF THE ABOVE give me download speeds of around 0.30 to 0.45. they also all give me an upload rate of 0.45 to 0.50. so i have almost full upload speed on all accounts but only a fraction of the download speed. i reported the problem to telkom and they said that they couldnt see anything wrong on their side but that they would report the fault. they reset the line or whatever they can do from their side numerous times. i now await a technician to come to my house and bs me into paying the R188 call out charge cause he's gona blame the isps.
here's the weirdness. if i connect all 4 different accounts on 4 different computers, all to usenet via the varied news servers (mweb, IS and webafrica and saix), i get a combined download rate of around 120kb/sec on uncached stuff to around 240kb/sec on cached stuff.
so now, are ALL FOUR of these accounts throttled to 512k? should i try a telkom account (i dont have one)? is this a telkom problem (how can it be if i can get higher speeds when combining the rates of 4 accounts on the same line)? do i fight with telkom or ALL FOUR isps at the same time having each one blaming telkom? anyone have any suggestions? what the hell is going on? please help

i have tried speedtest.net as well as the axxess and gamco speedtests on hellkom.co.za. they ALL give me the very same result. any any any advice would be much appreciated. many thanks.
