OK so I'm uncapped and my local speed is 1mbit but my international is limited to 64kbit, I thouhgt maybe my tower was busy or it was a general problem with iBurst but after querying other users downloading the same file it seems to be only me. I have been downloading tthis file non-stop since friday and it's still not done and has been 64k the whole way through.

Then after seeing nobody is mentioning the same problem here I'm starting to think it's only me.. I was speaking to w1z4rd about it and he said something interesting:

(antitrust): that is real wierd
(antitrust): unless uve got 'abuser' status

Whats going on?? I even bought another GB to be safe but still nada. Does anybody know whats going on?

Yep I'm also getting capped-like speed on international (cisco.com) ... local OK. I'm not a supposed 'abuser' ... belong to the email & surf brigade.

I always lean toward incompetence rather than conspiracy when thinking of WBS.

EDIT @ 2:44pm: Now OK ... getting bout 620kbps from cisco.
EDIT @ 2:47pm: Not so OK ... capped & uncapped speeds come & go in waves.
EDIT @ 2:59pm: Gatvol ... going for a drink!

i think iburst is throttling on purpose to conserve on bandwidth because it is costing more then they probably envisioned... slim, for me it depends where i download from.

some international links are definitly capped to 64K while others are open.

this can be proved by testing on these various speed test

http://www.broadbandreports.com/stest

eg
Megapath (california) always yeilds 1Mb speeds in the test

Linkline (california) always yeilds capped speeds (5k-7k)

i actually dont know what that all means but something fishy is happening somewhere. it might not even be iburst it might be uunet.

either way its farking irritating... cuz some areas are fast and some not

that sounds very strange. I think in the next time we must watch out all of us, if we are not subject to some deliberate sanctions from Telkom....

OK more information

halcion and I tested with the exact same file, his speeds were 1mbit... mine were 64kbit (international file)

then to make sure its not my pc, modem or tower i testing with the local telkom file and 1mbit all the way through for all 10MB of it.

Is it at all possible WBS cuts off my international because I am seen as an abuser? does anybody thinks this might hold some truth. Its not cut off actually I shouldnt say that but it is thrttled to 64kbit, like I said for the whole weekend and earlier in the week it wasnt much better (but I put it down to the beginning of the month thing)

If you are accused of being an "abuser" could you please tell me if this is the case with you

SLim Is iBurst what you would refer to you as a WWAN?
How far are you from the tower?

i assume they are doing it because im a heavy downloader. It cant be shaping because its through HTTP a priority port (unshaped)

but I cant say for sure untill someone else who is a heavy downloader gets the exact same problem

gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarg
yes i know its not an area problem or I couldnt be getting 1mbit on the telkom 10MB dummy file i downloaded, and yes I know they havent shaped everyone from my areas international because they shape centrally at the core of the network, so it would affect everyone or they would have ryules to shape a users international if thier UTID (unique identifier for iburst) equals x

SLim, I took the liberty of contacting my friend In Cape town.
He is also a heavy-dl-er and he said he had slow download progress internationally at the end of his cap 5gb away!
SO its probablly monitored:(

Slim just tried again ... from what I can see this is something technical not an 'abuser witchhunt'.

As stated previously I hardly do any downloading & Cisco's website is capped ~ 64kbps while Microsoft's isn't, spikes up past 600 kbps.

yeah look i dont wanna be the weird tinfoil hat paranoid "they're coming to get me" guy... but it seemed odd when halicon and i download the same file at the same time on irc and compare stats using a stats script and his speed is 1mbit

also on my server i asked soem torrent flux users about their speeds they said it was all fine, mine... not so fine

BUT you have given me a glimmer of hope because i went to microsoft.com and it was like 90KB/s.... but please tell me they dont run software that pushed me off to a local mirror when seeing my IP, please say that and I'll be happy

also with the maintenence to night hopefully things get better
