Respected rock climber David Wade was shot dead when he tried to help security guards during a robbery at an adventure farm in Waterval Boven, Mpumalanga, at the weekend.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brig Leonard Hlathi said the attack happened at Tranquilitas Adventure Farm on Saturday evening. Hlathi said Wade was visiting the camp when he heard security guards screaming for help. The guards were being held up by armed robbers.
"According to his wife, he went to investigate and that is when he was shot. Although police arrived immediately after the incident with their dogs, they could not trace the suspects as it was raining," said Hlathi.
The attackers are still at large.

Tony Lourens, writing on the SA Mountain magazine Facebook page, said:
"I'm sitting at my desk, just barely able to control my anger and outrage at the senseless, cold-blooded murder of one of South Africa's most motivated, dedicated and talented climbers, David Wade, friend, son, brother and partner - loved by so many."

Well said Tony, ai jirre, I hate this place.

R.I.P. Jjust goes to show, in SA, if sheet goes down, ignore it. Try and be a hero, and you are dead.

Jirre the reaction time and response from that guy in the blue shirt is spot-on.
A perfect example why every law-abiding citizen in this country needs to be armed and trained to the teeth.
Gave me goosebumps to see that p0es flop around like a little girl when the tables turn.
That guy can't shoot for sht. look at the slide on the pistol. He is squeezing them but the robber is not dropping.

Knowing how South Africa's laws love to protect criminals, i wouldn't be surprised if the cops already visited this guy to make sure he had a gun license or possibly arrest him, cause, you know - you can't just waive a gun around as a citizen. Only criminals are allowed to.
What's wrong with that?

What's wrong is that the intention is to prosecute the innocent for something and caring much less about the actual criminals.
A friend of mine called the police to see footage in their complex of 8 cars being broken into by the same person.
The cops response? "Does your complex have the consent of the residents to record video?" Since the complex did not have written consent only minutes from an AGM the cop said they cannot use the footage and the cameras should be taken down...Nothing was ever done about the clear facial image of the guy seen breaking into cars.

So basically it's OK to be a little criminal not a big criminal.

You have a serious case of Netflixilitus if you think "dropping" someone, just like that, is an actual thing in the real world.
No that cop that got shot in the mall dropped instantly.
Depends where the shot hits. Certain parts of the brain its an instant off switch. Most other parts adrenaline can keep the body going for a bit.

Do they need written consent for recording in communial areas. Most cops don't know enough about the laws they are supposed to enforce. Very little I'd trust them with to get right without first speaking with a lawyer and reading the relevant acts myself. Like cops who will tell you at a roadblock that hollow point bullets are illegal. o_O

In response to that I would have printed out his face and put it all over the place with the text "Suspect burglar" :p

Yip. I was at a shoot the other day where we shot at standing targets - most guys didn't even group on the target. Now imagine trying shooting at a running target..... People with firearms need to practise lots more.
