So it seemed Spizz just made it...

Big time. The paw paw is hitting the fan now alright and it's scary to think that that West Point slum they are talking about is only a few minutes walk from the centre of Monrovia. It's crazy to think they have closed it off, it must be hellish in there.

could? will die.
They are all doomed to die. This is no way for a government to treat its citizens. There has to be a way to get out via testing and relocation (while being monitored and isolated). Just locking them in and waiting it out is terrible.

Thing is testing takes too long for a definitive result.

Set out 30 allocated pieces of land. Start in zone one, put 50 people in it. Each day the move to the next numbered zone. If the group gets through 30 zones without a fever outbreak they are "released". If a single person gets a fever in the group before 30 days (30 zones) the group is returned to the start.

Or something similar. Just leaving them to die is poor, some effort must be made to save as many as they can.

And if one person becomes symptomatic, pretty much that whole group is doomed and the land needs to be disinfected thoroughly before it can be reused

The longer you are in there, the more chance you'll be infected. They need to get the healthy out asap in some form or another. The conditions in there favour ebola far too much.

SA ISSUES TRAVEL BANS

Cabinet has issued an immediate travel ban for non-South Africans from countries affected by the Ebola virus outbreak, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said on Thursday.

"A total travel ban for all non-citizens travelling from these high-risk countries (Guinea, Kenya and Sierra Leone), unless the travel is considered absolutely essential," he told reporters in Pretoria.

"For citizens of South Africa who wish to travel to these countries, they will be requested to delay their travel unless it is absolutely essential for them to travel."

He said South Africans coming from such West African countries would be subjected to a strict screening process, and medically examined if need be.

They would have to complete a comprehensive health questionnaire before being granted entry into the country.

"If the comprehensive medical and the temperature screening reveal something, they will have to subject themselves to a complete medical examination."

For people from medium- and low-risk countries, including Nigeria, Kenya and Ethiopia, the normal surveillance processes would continue.

Cabinet met in Cape Town on Wednesday.

DA WELCOMES TRAVEL BAN

The Democratic Alliance welcomed on Thursday the travel ban for non-South Africans from countries affected by the Ebola virus outbreak.

"We also welcome the minister's intention to medically examine and screen all South Africans returning from these countries until further notice," DA MP Wilmot James said in a statement.

Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said on Thursday that Cabinet issued an immediate travel ban for non-South Africans from countries affected by the Ebola virus disease.

"[There is] a total travel ban for all non-citizens travelling from these high-risk countries (Guinea, Kenya and Sierra Leone), unless the travel is considered absolutely essential," he told reporters in Pretoria.

"For citizens of South Africa who wish to travel to these countries, they will be requested to delay their travel unless it is absolutely essential for them to travel."

Motsoaledi said South Africans coming from these West African countries would be subjected to a strict screening process, and medically examined if need be.

They would have to complete a comprehensive health questionnaire before being granted entry into the country.

"If the comprehensive medical and the temperature screening reveal something, they will have to subject themselves to a complete medical examination."

For people from medium and low-risk countries, including Nigeria, Kenya and Ethiopia, the normal surveillance processes would continue.

James said the spread of Ebola to South Africa was a serious public health threat.

"We support Minister Motsoaledi's proactive approach. We call on government to be as vigilant as possible to ensure that South Africa remains Ebola-free," he said.

"Senegal has decided to once again close the land borders with the Republic of Guinea," the statement said, adding that this extends to "air and sea borders for aircraft and ships from the Republic of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia".

This is starting to get ugly. Well, "starting" is a understatement I guess.

Africa has far too many hungry mouths in it already, a nice disease like Ebola can fix that.
