Sup all,

been doing some reading on what 3G is and what its capable of. One thing that i have come across is three main technologies behind 3G

WCDMA
CMDA
EDGE

i know that MTN use EDGE to get 384Kbps, what technology does Vodacom use ? just interested cause i know we follow european standards when it comes to cell phone technology.

if any of you have any ideas on what vodacom uses let me know, cant seem to find it on their website.

regards

Vodacom use WCDMA. CMDA and EDGE are 2G (GSM) technologies. EDGE has a theoretical maximum speed of 8TSx 59.2Kbps = 473.6Kbps, although most devices only support up to a maximum of 4TS (Time Slots) - 236.8Kbps, and most base stations only have 4 of the 8 time slots per channel enabled for data.
Cheers -

thanks man,

europe use WCDMA and in one of the BBC articles they (vodacom) where following europes 3G journey very closely. so i kinda figured it was that, just needed to make sure.

ta for the reply

regards
