So after my ordeal with Takealot (https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/nano79-tv-review.1112627/post-26521416) I finally got a refund, but now I need to decide on what TV to buy. All the 'good' Black Friday/Cyber Monday specials are over so I'm relegated to looking for normal specials at the retailers.

I'm strongly considering buying locally this time and just collecting it in person, seeing as how the couriers handle TV's lately. The only stores we have here that sell TV's seem to be Kloppers, Makro, PnP Hyper, Game, HiFi Corp and Incredible Connection.

I'm looking for a panel with SPDIF output, HDMI 2.0, a chassis that can be wall-mounted, a proper 10bit panel and preferably something with some form of local dimming. I'm not too phased with Smart functions, so everything additional to the above would be great.

I've narrowed it down to the following:

Skyworth 65SUC9300
Hisense 65B8000
Hisense 65Q8600
Hisense 65U7WF

Some ones that didn't make the cut:

AIM 65" - No SPDIF
Sinotec 65" - Cannot be wall mounted
Panasonic 65", I forget the model name - can't find any info on this model anywhere

Thanks!

Who uses SPDIF?
Am I the only one without surround sound?

My sound bar only has BT and Optical - I could replace it with another SB with HDMI but that needs to be worked into the budget, sadly

Please explain

Sinotec 50" has the absolute $hittest most tinny sound I've ever had the misfortune of hearing. It has no audio out except for SPDIF, so that's how I connect it to a sound bar to make the listening experience bearable.

I bought a brand new 55" Smart Sinotech just over 3 years ago for R5950 on special and am very happy with it. It is permanently connected to my hifi so I cannot comment what its internal sound is like, but I am happy with the picture for a 48yr old drunkard like me.

You do know that non of the TV's you narrowed it down to have proper 10bit panel right?

I'd say go for the 65U7WF or IF you can, spend about R1k more and get a 65U7QF.

I added the 10bit requirement afterwards - of that list I only see the B8000 that has a 10bit panel.

I see it's in stock at one of the stores for R12k, so going to call them tomorrow and ask them to keep me a unit spare.

The B8000 isn't 10bit. It's 8bit+FRC.
Similarly the Q8600 is 8bit+FRC. The Q8600 is also quantum dot, providing better colour

Crap, you are right. The site I looked at was probably misquoting the specs

So my bout of bad luck continues.

Called the store and asked if they can source local stock of the 65B8000. No sir, we cannot sir, please use our online ordering system. Fair enough.

Trying to add the 65B8000 to the cart kept on giving me an error, called their customer support line at just after 5PM, and received a pre-recorded voice recording telling me their hours are from 8 to 6 and they are currently closed.

The hunt continues.

EDIT: Adding the TV to the cart and selecting a CPT address seems to work, but courier fees from CPT to PE are around R4k - so that idea is out

You don’t need to be constrained by the optical input on your sound bar :)
Just use an analog-to-digital converter like this. All you need is the usual RCA left and right outputs on your TV (or a 3.5mm “aux” output, with a 3.5-to-RCA cable). The converter turns that into a digital optical output.
