Create a sms, type in the name of the person that have a number an a few email addresses. The email addresses will be shown first.

I tried that ... On mine it shows the number first ... I also have all my contacts' numbers starting with the country code i.e. +27 ..... (for SA)

I use chom sms now - similar to stock SMS, but with blacklisting ability. It doesn't show the e-mail addys at all when typing in a name

+1 What ChocolateBadger said

/sigh

I will just have to bond with it I suppose.

What mail client do you guys use? The gmail app or the email client ? I havent tried the email client so maybe that one will remember my email contacts.

Any comments on the resize photos? If the only option is using one of my photo editor apps and then saving it and then emailing it....faaakk uuuuuu Andriod. I think i'll revert back to the Iphone once this contract is done. I just love the "just works" thing. ;)

Sure, switch from a Ferrari to a scooter because you can't find the window wiper switch.... :whistling:

If you want to insert photos directly from the camera, it asks you for a size, 100%, 70%, 30% etc right after taking the thing, isn't that what you meant?

Contacts>(press menu key)Contacts to Display>Customize...

Thats how to change it on the Galaxy S2 the S3 should be similar

It does not give me that option I only have: delete, import/export, merge with samsung, merge with google, accounts, speed dial setting, send email, send message

using gmail. i found the other email client to be a data hog. although the everything in one view is useful i have no idea why gmail hasnt thought of this. maybe its in the ICS version.

i must admit that i always thought it resized it when i emailed etc. i should check that i guess:p

give android a shot before you condemn it.

1. Sync your contacts at least. if the phone goes missing you have a backup.
You can choose what to sync and what not to sync. You can also choose which phone books to display and don't need to display them all.

2. You can resize photos and some versions do it automatically, learn to use the phone.

3. What are you using data on? turn off automatic updates and such for apps.

4. My keyboards work fine, as does the predictive text, learn to use your phone.

It's not an Iphone and things Just work.... Differently.

This.

Although the gmail app can't really resize photos, I just saw. I never use it since I find it shyte anyways, been using the stock (or now TouchWiz) email app all the time, it's much more powerful and shows all your email accounts in one place. That's the one that asks to resize pictures when attaching them.

imo having used an iphone4 and now the S3 neither is inferior to the other, OS wise. Some ppl like android for its customization and other ppl like apple that you dont need to fiddle with it. This is not a hate thread just me, expressing my frustration at some of the features on/not on android.

I do not see this feature you speak of when taking the pic (tested). But i mean when sending a mail and then attaching the picture not necessarily a new one. In this case it was a screenshot.

On my S2 the standard email app asks me if I want to resize the photo before I send it, with some sizing options.

they are off, but i dont want my gmail contacts to appear as contacts on my phone contact list...

So change this in the contacts application, and allow it to only display the contacts you want. Why would you not want to sync your contacts with Gmail? It just makes your life easier...

Ahhh, will switch over to that app then. Tx.

how??? i raised legitimate issues

I disabled the facebook notifications. I hope it was that. Otherwise vodacom is faaking up with their data usage counter.

The first time I synched, it synched everything I dont want that, I dont see where you can filter it though.

Did you disable Facebook from auto refreshing? The Facebook app clocked in over 200Mb on my phone last month because i forgot to turn that off.

The point is, you don't need to "fiddle" with anything, you just never bothered to figure out how it works.

I should have maybe mentioned, this is the proper mail client, not gmail. And yes it works with existing images as well. When you click the attachment icon, then the type of attchment, etc. it will ask you for a size.

Also, about the "none is inferior" bit... get back to me when you can run something like Tasker, install whatever you want, whenever you want, plug in and use pretty much any external USB hardware, change your stock apps, or even multi-task on your iphone, and then we might have a discussion.

Another reason why only a masochist would use the gmail app. It's still more a wrapper for the website than an actual app. Google probably knew this which is why they've always included an actual email app as well.

I must agree with some comments here, if you going to get an Android phone then don't complain about it, there are mountains of of information in different forums on the web that explain the simplest things to severely complicated changes. Don't buy the phone and then compare how it doesn't work like other OS's, that doesn't make sense...

I went from a Nokia N85 to GalaxyS to Galaxy Nexus, all 3 had their own learning curve but the more you investigate the more you learn.

Also install onavo on your phone ASAP to monitor your data usage, it will even tell you the data hogs.
