Ex iphone user.

The following things annoy me about the OS..if there is fixes for this please help.

1. Since I do not want my facebook, gmail contacts synched on my phone contact list..no email address is ever remembered when using the gmail app. I always have to reply to mails or type the full email address in. On the iphone this was never a problem, as soon as you replied to an email address the address would be logged and you can easily acess it by either typing the begining of the email or persons name. NO DAMN synching* everything!

2. When taking a picture and attaching it to a mail there is no option for changing the size of the photo. With the iphone you could choose to resize the photo when you attach it.

3. I'm using MUCH more data than ever before. I went through 250mb in just 10 days where this would have lasted me a month with the same usage as the iphone. Damn background apps. I've shut that down on all apps now..i hope.

4. The predictive text and keyboard sucks! swift key x and the standard that comes with the S3. Iphone keyboard...just works.

I'm gonna be pissed if the iphone 5 is super duper awesome and I didnt wait :/

* why does everything just wanna synch?? no google i dont want you to have ALL my information now stop trying to synch everything and then giving me crappy functionality cause i didnt synch

....Rant over.

Please feel free to correct my idiotic behaviour if any of the above can be fixed.

I see quite q few responses on this, but i thought i would put in my comments

1. I really think android phones are designed to work off gmail contacts. I personally find this an amazing feature and something i would not want to go with out. Cant see how you would get benefit from not using gmail contacts.
2. This is an issue. We can only hope google will create a fix and push out an update
3 and *. Data - mixed views here - some iPhone users report less usage on android. This comes to settings - you need to switch of auto syncing etc. A noob wouldnt know this and could get burnt - which says android is not really for noobs or the less tech savvy. Android is built for inter-connectivity. In a south african market we are being shafted by operators for data usage. iPhone users get more data on like for like contracts and this should not be the case. Its a smart phone, it is meant to be connected.
4. Everybody will battle to adjust to a new keyboard. I like swiftkey. But i take your point. Personally I have only used an iPad keyboard and if its the same as an iPhone keyboard, i find it crap.

<--- Also a former iPhone 4 user

when I switched to my Samsung Note I almost had a heart attack... :erm:

It takes quite a while to get everything working the way you WANT IT. Trust me, it take some time. I have settled down now, but the one remaining thing is that this keyboard cant keep up with my typing. In whatsapp there is LAAAAAAAAAAAG and it annoys me

Is there any way to resolve this? :crying: using swiftkey 3

Have you tried all the different keyboards? I'm using Gingerbread keyboard which I downloaded ages ago. Just seems to work better than anything else I have used.

Reading the OP I was basically just thinking "it's just you". Also don't see why you would want to turn off sync... Next thing we have yet another facebook post with "oh noes my phone died please everybody send me your numbers/PIN/etc". It's easy enough to group contacts and to filter them etc. My dialer only shows contacts with phone numbers anyway.

2: It's hardly a bug, it's a feature request. Admittedly it might be useful.

3: Well you've just gotten a new phone so it's to be expected. Smartphones weren't designed for south africa and our pricy data services basically. For the countries it's designed for data usage isn't a problem so the design doesn't have anything to do with whether it's for noobs or not. If you're in SA and reasonably clued up you should be watching data usage (or dont get a smartphone), simple as that.

4: Personally I use touchpal. I avoided swiping type keyboards for a while but once I got used to that it's REALLY crap having to type something out by trying to hit keys (which you are stuck with on iphone and windows phone).

something small that I JUST figured out...

My keyboard was lagging when I was typing in whatsapp. It was pissing me off no end

Im using Swiftkey 3 (probably the best) and under settings > advanced I had the typing style set to precise. I changed that to Rapid and I have a much better typing experience now

I would suggest syncing your contacts. If you're worried about having too many contacts displayed on your contacts list, there should be a setting somewhere to display only contacts that have an associated phone number.

For what it's worth, I've always considered contacts syncing to be one of the best features in Android. It means your contact list is always backed up and synchronised across all your devices and your PC; it also means that you can get everyone's info in one place. It's awesomely cool when you add someone's details to your Gmail contacts on your PC, and then five seconds later it appears on your phone. And you do other nice things too, like associate a physical address with one of your contacts, and then set your phone to navigate there directly from the contacts menu.

It works even better if you're a Google+ user, because nifty features like displaying photos of your contacts, and having information like their email addresses and job description change automatically without any intervention needed on your part.

In short, the contact syncing feature is great - I honestly think that if you try it for a while, you'll see the advantage of using it.

Contact syncing in an android and now an iPhone thing. As of IOS6 facebook and contact sync is directly integrated into the OS, at last beta there was no way to disable it.
If you use facebook on your iPhone it will sync it, weather you like it or not.

Personally never email photos and also could care less about data, between mostly using wifi and onavo extend data is of very little concern to me. Any data I use off wifi is compressed 60-80% so the inability to re-size the photo is of little real benefit if data is your concern.

With data its again something to get used too, more recently android has defaulted the update on wifi option in the play store so unless you have a stupid amount of apps that need background data and let them all run free as birds you should not have any more data usage than your iPhone, most users have reported substantially less usage on androids as it has more control options, especially once rooted. The official facebook and twitter apps are crap and default settings are stupid so they will abuse your data too all ends, if I remember correctly facebook defaulted to a 30 min update in background which even with a sparsely active facebook that will add up. You cannot very well blame the developers of the device for the stupidity of the developers of the software, in the same breath you should always take a look at an apps settings when installing it.

Keyboard, well unlike iPhone you have dozens if not hundreds of keyboards to choose from so take your pick, as for the predictive text, I see little reason to be using it when you have full qwerty, do you use predictive text on your PC when typing word documents? As for iPhones accuracy, I have seen dozens of sites dedicated to auto correct mistakes and 99% of them come fro iPhone, I am yet to see a screenshot of an auto-correct foul up from a non-apple device. I will say when I had an iPhone the keyboard was extremely comfortable and found that Perfect Keyboard with either Rapid or Facebook skin is the closest in usability, as for predictive accuracy, I could care less, I an type properly and do not need predictions messing with my text or causing me to stop so I can select it. Could just be me who is very used to typing on he's phone keyboard as I can type full out without making mistakes. With the large screen of my note making the on-screen keys about the same size as my thumbs I can type with pretty decent accuracy without even looking at it. Something I could not get away with on my iPhone or Nexus S.

Given the number of typos and other mistakes in this paragraph dedicated to the accuracy of the note's keyboard I'm guessing you didn't use your note to type this out? :)
