I have been reading lately about homeschooling and considering it. What are the Pros and Cons of it, and what kind of a relationship is expected between the parent and Dept of Education? I don't know much about this, does the child have to be assessed every year before he can go to the next level?

Oh hai rza.....

I would assume that the child has to be assessed every year to progress... and the child will be expected to show sufficient knowledge in the material presented in the syllabus...

No offence meant here rza but having had conversations with you in the past I don't know if you are up to the challenge of homeschooling your kid.

I was in a school (ACE curriculum) that allowed students to be home schooled. A long story short, the main disadvantage is that you are not around other people in school. You miss out on friendships etc. I would never home school my kid unless it was the only option.

The most likely reason rza would want to homeschool his kids is that he doesn't like the outside influence and given his personal brand of christianity, christian school'd be out too.

If that is the case you are not gonna do your kids any favour. Some (more than you think) coming out of those isolated environments kind-off "SNAPS" and go experience everything they were deprived off in the next 2 or 3 years. That "safety net" is suddenly gone and no one is there to hold your hand and stop you.

From the Christian school I went to the one girl got a kid and had to marry, the other one got divorced by the time she turned 22 and I passed out on someone's lawn... twice. OK, that sounds a bit rough but the reality is that home schooling really doesn't worked out all that well. I'm just saying...

Well there are homeschool networks that keep allow you to interact with other students- play sports etc.

another option is to look at a tutoring center- run by a qualified teacher who is able to answer any questions they may have and keep them on track. The classes are small and focused and so they still get to interact with other students.
