Exactly that. Who is daft enough to think that the majority of smokers are going to be able to magically stop smoking all the while a substantial amount in tax revenue is lost.

My mom stays in PMB and was slightly dismayed when I told her that her lockdown cigarettes have a Zuma connection.

Someone I know got the following:

About a week and half ago, a pack of Stuyvesant blue was going for R100 a pack / R1000 per carton.
A few days ago a carton of Shasha-or-something-like-that could be had for R200 per carton.

(If you want to know who benefits from these "no smoke" rules, look to who has the "connections". Simple.)
