Why is that?

He's got a very unique and unconventional writing style that a lot of people don't like. I think he's excellent and is great at atmospheric writing. Also great at world building.

Give it a shot if you're keen.

I'll give it a try sometime, but if i don't like the writing style, i'll stop immediately and not force myself to finish it like i have before with others.

I'd be curious to know what you think of China Miéville, fanie. Don't expect you'll like it, though. :)

I read one of his books once (Kraken) and it was so so bad, I can't emphasize just how truly awful it was, but it put me off ever reading anything by him ever again. Which is a pity because I've heard such good things about his work but now I feel both nauseous and furious everytime I see his name. That someone could waste my time with such utter boring BS and confusing crap. First time ever I've wanted to burn a book.

The City and The City wasn't too bad.

Haha. Kraken is apparently quite divisive, even among fans. I haven't read it, personally. But I loved Perdido Street Station, The City & The City, The Last Days of New Paris, and This Census-Taker.

Bridge over bloodriver by Kasja Norman

It is a very good book on the contemporary status of Afrikaners in SA. She spent some good time in all areas of SA. I enjoyed the book a lot.

FYI if anyone's still interested - Altered Carbon series dropped this weekend and it's pretty good. Watch if you enjoyed the book(s). Quite a departure from the plot tho. (if memory serves).

Currently reading 3 books, due to the nature of them I'm chopping and changing a bit.

1) Bill Bryson - A short history of nearly everything

2) Michael Wolff - Fire and Fury

and one I started last night:

3) Barack Obama - Dreams from my father
