Finished Iron Gold recently. Very good. Brown is really maturing as an author.

Craig Alanson - Columbus Day: Expeditionary Force (Book 1)

Only chapter 1 but loving it so far

Just finished Artemis by Andy Weir. Thought it was ok - the plot was a bit meh in parts

Finished this now. Not my style thanks. Like I said, story is good enough, but the way it's told is not for me.

Feel like a bit of Sci-fi... anyone read the Vorkosigan Saga? Thoughts? Also, I've read up on reading order, and even the writer herself has an opinion on it, so I will follow what she said :)

So will start this next: Falling Free (Vorkosigan Saga #4) by Lois McMaster Bujold

Started Earthsea as well. I'm not sure. You can tell it was written a long time ago, kind of ponderous, overly verbose language.
Going to give it a chance though.

I blew through Artemis in a couple of days...

Ken Follett - A Column of Fire (Kingsbridge series is long but well worth it).

The entire trilogy is rather repetitive though. I struggled to complete column and have up 90% through.

Yep, the first book in the series was fantastic, the second was good, entertaining and enjoyable to read. A Column of Fire was a struggle - it was really formulaic, boring and predictable

He's the one who did The Martian right? Is this similar?
Somewhat, in the sense we have a plucky protagonist in a hostile environment, but this reads more as YA (imo, anyway). It's a quick read and light entertainment, but also more forgettable.

True. It has that YA feel to it. I must say that the premise never grabbed me but I loved the Martian and so had to read Artemis. I enjoyed it as it was easy reading (or listening) but towards the end the problem solving theme got a bit tedious. For some reason I found the Martian more believable and it felt more like fiction than science fiction, Artemis becomes less and less believable and so lacks the tension that The Martian had.

Its an enjoyable book, just not as good.

I have not participated in this thread yet, but think it's time I start.

Got myself an Audible subscription yesterday. Hate the fact that I'm not reading books, so will try listen to them as a consolation.

My first book is:

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.

Found it on a Reddit recommendation and figured Will Wheaton reading it is a plus.

Finished this today. Enjoyed it a lot. Would not say it's the best I've ever read, but the nostalgia is strong.

Thinking about getting We Are Legion, We Are Bob by Dennis E. Taylor next.

I loved Ready Player One. The Bobs are a must on audiobook imo. The narrator is excellent.
