Alright, think I'll tackle Mark Lawrence's Broken Empire series next... enough of sci-fi for now :)

Have now finished the first two, Prince of Thorns and King of Thorns. The first was, mediocre at best, the second was on a whole new level. A fantastic fantasy novel. Can't wait to get into the 3rd, Emperor of Thorns

I hated the books and by the end I hated him as a writer. I won't read anything by him again. To clarify: That doesn't mean I think he's a bad writer. In fact, it might support the opinions of many people who praise his books, as it could evoke such strong feelings from me.

Now I'm curious: what was it about his writing (or the subject matter) which revolted you so much?

I haven't read anything by him - I'm just being quizzical.

Can't really go into details without spoiling things, but basically it just keeps on repeating the theme that there are horrible people doing horrible things and no matter what you do, there will never be any justice for it.

most people don't like it because the main character is not your typical fantasy hero... he's basically a krunt

Yes. Like I said, I'll never criticise him as a writer, but after that scene there is no way I'll ever read one of his books again, either.
Ok now I'm curious to know what happened in that scene.
