I enjoyed Doctor Sleep immensely. The only King books I've really struggled with have been the Dark Tower series, which I sort of enjoyed, but not as much as I usually do his work. 11/22/63 was amazing. As far as I know, I've read all of his books, bar perhaps one or two.

11/22/63 was one that Fanie pointed in my direction. Absolutely stunning. I’ve never cried so much in a book in my life and that ending will never leave me.

Other than that, Under the Dome was a ridiculous premise but the characters made it a great read and one is highly recommended. Other than that, I think the only other SK book I’ve read was The Stand.

Maybe I should just push through and finish Doctor Sleep then. I have not read the Dark Tower series. Got the first four books at home, but I am reluctant because it is fantasy. But my brother had insisted that I give them a go. He loved them, so I will definitely read the Dark Tower series eventually.

I’ve just finished The Way of Kings at the second attempt and I now know why people say to stick with it. It’s barnstorming stuff eventually but the world building requires patience.

It’s so comprehensive, just try and explain to someone what the book is about. It’s near impossible and would take a good 30 minutes if anyone was prepared to listen.

Oh, should say I’ve started the new Inspector Rebus book which came out a couple of weeks ago has been waiting for me to finish The Way of Kings.

It’s already like having a beer with an old pal and I’m only a couple of chapters in.

I definitely concur on 11/22/63. It was the perfect novel to me. The Stand is SK's Magnus Opus in my opinion. I read the uncut edition - simply brilliant. To me Under the Dome also seems silly at the end, but like you said the story telling of it and characters made it quite enjoyable.

Not. Is it worth a read having seen the movie?

The movie and the book is quite similar. They did a great job of it. Incorporating much of the original dialogue. If you really love your books, I would read it even though you have watched the movie. But if you more after just the story, the movie in itself is sufficient.

If you like the Stand, do try Swan Song by Robert R McCammon. Up there in my top 10 books and better than the Stand IMO :)

Fair enough. Lots of great reads lined up on my list.

Yes, as with most cases its better. Very well written and the movie misses out on a lot.
I wouldn't say a lot. It goes without saying that the book is usually better than the movie as generally not everything that is in the book can be done or fit into a movie. But I genuinely thought the movie was close. To me, the only time the movie was better than the book was in the case of The Mist.
