Shoe dog all done ..

On to Sapiens...

Can anyone recommend where to start with Brandon Sanderson books? Which one is a good place to start with, or which one is the start, if you know what I mean?

The books all happen in the same "Cosmere" but are very very loosely linked, besides for some easter eggs here and there, so the reading order isn't important in my opinion. I think if you like gritty fantasy, start with the Mistborn books and if you like epic fantasy start with the Stormlight Archives (my personal favourite). The various stand alone books can be read later on when you're in the Sanderson Withdrawal stage

Just finished Babylon's Ashes (book 6 of The Expanse). Kinda slow and sloggy at times but still good.

Half-way through Dark Intelligence by Neal Asher (book 1 of the Transformation series). Enjoying it a lot...fast-paced sci-fi. Continues with the concepts and worlds from his other books.

Just finished Speaks the Nightbird by Robert R McCammon, the first in the Matthew Corbett series.

I enjoyed it, especially the setting as it really makes you think about how people were thinking and acting back then wrt to religion and the devil etc. But I must admit I’m not completely wowed and would give it a 3.5/5 on goodread scoring. It just all seemed a bit hit and miss with Matthews suppositions and conclusions although it was exciting and I hold great hope for continuing the series.

So, I started the second one Queen of Bedlam and it already has me interested with the setting changed to New York. I get the feeling it’s going to settle down and really hook me in now.

Follow it up with Sagan's Varieties of Scientific Experience. It's a reference, and it's great.

Thanks, may just do that - I grew up listening to and watching Sagan and he's one of my heroes.

Finished Swan Song (I'm a slower reader than most of you here) and really loved it. Superior to The Stand in that it's more nuanced on the good-vs-evil premise. Also a very absorbing read.

Listening to 21 Lessons for the 21st Century by YN Harari. Definitely some food for thought.

Finished Fuzzy Nation. Holiday popcorn book. Light & fun. Might pick up the 1962 original (Little Fuzzy) later. Anyone read both and think the original is worth reading too?

Just started reading this biography - only read the first two chapters but already loving it! Pity I have to go to work on Monday...sigh.

I am a HUGE Churchill fan, so I was already predisposed to liking it :)
