yeh, the 2nd and 3rd in the series is a lot higher rated, so will get to it eventually.
More a case of independent stories built around a central theme.

I like his take on an almost communist society with the replacement of human governance by computer minds. Eliminates the animal farm situation.

Anyone read this?

Haven't read that, but read Paul S. Kemp's Lords of the Sith, which also came highly rated. Found it quite meh, despite being a fan of the author.

The universe simply isn't interesting enough for literature, imo.

There are 10 books in the Culture universe...i enjoyed Phlebas btdubbs. Kind of a counterpoint to most popular sci-fi that focuses on the actions of one person or a few people in a narrative.

A pity he passed away, at least he got most of his work done.

Unlinke GRRM...at this rate he is going to peg with 2 books unwritten.

Don't recall if I've asked before, but did anyone ever read The Mastership Game by Scott McBain?

I'm reading "The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D Salinger and "Losing my Virginity" by Richard Branson.

Catcher is one of my all time favourites. Need to read that again.

One of two books that changed who I am as a person.

Starship Troopers - Robert A. Heinlein

Nice listen, not too heavy

You'll enjoy The Forever War by Joe Helderman.

Military sci fi in the vain of James Cameron's Aliens.

This old Sci Fi is blowing my mind. I think once you understand the context of what it written in then it just makes it that much more interesting.
