As long as you don't neglect your responsibilities (including spousal duties, exercise etc.), I don't see the problem...

The Mote in God's Eye - rather dull, actually.
There's no characters I really care about or find particularly interesting, even the ET's. Was hoping for a lot more 'that's kinda cool' moments, and just haven't had them.
About 70% of the way, will be glad to finish it.

It seems he is referencing modern shows, musicians etc in his newer novels, and I do not care for it(but I don't know why).
