The following comment about the trilogy put me off,
'The next Hunger Games' The Sunday Times
That would have put me off too, but it's nothing like that so far. It's a society who live in a huge silo for several generations after (I assume) a nuclear war. There's structures in place with law and mayor etc, but there seems to be intrigue and secrets about previous uprisings in previous generations etc.

I enjoyed the Wool trilogy. Read it a while back, so memory a bit vague, but I think worthwhile sticking with it.

Yes, I enjoyed the series and it was cheap iirc. It's one of those rare examples of a book that was self-published by the author on amazon kindle and became wildly popular and successful.

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. They just don't write them like this anymore...

Belters, eh? Like the ones native to Brakpan? :D

I'm kinda bummed the next installment in the gentleman bastards series has been pushed back indefinitely (understandably as the author suffered some health issues, unlike a certain other fat author).

Currently driving about 2 hours each day and decided to listen through the Harry Potter Audio books by Stephen Fry.

This guy not only does an amazing job, nut he conveys the characters beautifully.

Listening to these books again, I feel like they were unnecasarily hyped the first time I read them and I am quite ashamed.

Still, currently at the half blood prince and thoroughly glad I am past the Order of the Phoenix, which in my case I deem to be the worst book in the series.

It's amazing how he voices the characters' voices same as their movie counterparts lol. Good narrator Stephen Fry is.

Started reading Daniel Suarez's Daemon and couldn't stop. Finished both Demon and the follow-up Freedom in a couple of days and highly recommend them.

“Suarez is the best author of tech fiction since Bruce Sterling and Neal Stephenson. Buy everything he writes.”
— John Robb, futurist & Author of Brave New War
“Daemon is the real deal—a scary look at what can go wrong as we depend increasingly on computer networks.”
— Craig Newmark, Founder Craigslist
“Daemon is to novels what The Matrix was to movies. It will be how other novels that rely on technology will be judged.”
— Rick Klau, Strategic Partner Development - Google
“Just as William Gibson's Neuromancer kick-started the cyberpunk genre, Daemon is likely to be the start of something new.”
— Paul Saffo - Futurist & columnist ABCNews.com

I have heard this term used in a few books. Referring to people who live in the outer belt of planets (Jupiter,Saturn,Uranus,Neptune)

and for those that don't know, it's the 6th (i think) installment in The Expanse (like the tv show) series.

Thinking of getting this:
View attachment 397664

Any good?

Haven't read it either, but the movie was pretty decent. Would like to read the book.

Update from my side - still busy with The Last Days of Night. Very good so far. Turns the War of Currents into a suspenseful story. By the same author that wrote The Imitation Game's screenplay.

Fanie, how's the slower read/listening pace going for you? You don't seem to be plowing through the books anymore. :)
