Fanie, how's the slower read/listening pace going for you? You don't seem to be plowing through the books anymore. :)

I'm enjoying the reading more than the listening to be honest, a lot more engaging obviously.... and because of the title I'm currently busy with, which is probably as long (or longer) than War and Peace it's just taking a schit load long to get through it. Just over halfway through book 2 and have read 3000 pages :wtf:

Re-reading the "Bachman books" by stephen King.
Long walk is done.

Interestingly the films Thinner and The Running Man are all based on his books under the Bachman pseudonym.

Good stuff. I suppose it helps to enjoy the process, rather than feel like you need to rush through them.

True. Another reason why it's going slower isn't really that I'm reading slower than what I listened to, it's just the only time I get to read now, is when I'm on the train. 20min in the morning. 20min in the afternoon. No more 1h50m(driving to station, walking to platform, waiting for train, walking off platform, walking to office) while I have my headphones on. And because I don't have my headphones on, there are also distractions to deal with like people talking too loudly, dude next to you with headphones on trying to clean his ears by sheer volume of his music, or when the train is so packed you don't get a seat and have to stand squashed against a dude which you hope has a banana in his pocket.

Collection of snippets from other books & essays (Turings Imitation Game, What it's like to be a bat etc.) with a brief analysis from Dennet & Hofstadter. Some of the stuff is dated but it's nice to get exposure to a wide range of material including:

This is my first time reading Lem and whilst I realize this book is maybe more playful than his other stuff, I'm quite enjoying it so far. Will need to pick up Solaris at some point.

Sapiens: A brief History of Humankind, by Yuval Noah Harari.

I recommend that Patrick Hockstetter and his hangers on read this book ASAP. I recommend all those that cling so desperately to their religious beliefs also read this book. Further I recommend all those that continually try to debate these things from a scientific point view read this book.

Further, try and read this book before you visit the Cradle of Humankind, and you may appreciate better what you see there.

I'd love to know what it is Yorkie, but Tapatalk is breaking links all over the place the last few weeks.

I just finished listening to Age of Myth by Michael J. Sullivan , highly recommended. Sullivan is a really good story teller and Tim Gerard Reynolds is an amazing narrator (imo obviously). Only thing is it's the first book in a series and has only just been released so you'll have to wait a year for the next one.
If you're not familiar with the writer, his previous series, Riyria (also narrated by Reynolds) is complete and was also a great listen/read.
