Might be of interest to some folks in here:

Lin-Manuel Miranda to produce film and TV adaptations of The Kingkiller Chronicle

Lionsgate has announced that Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda will be the creative producer for a series of screen adaptations of Patrick Rothfuss’ best-selling Kingkiller Chronicle novels, according to The Wrap. Lionsgate is planning a feature-film adaptation of the first book, along with a tie-in TV series that will further explore Rothfuss’ setting.

I'm going to have to reread these books, I honestly don't remember being that impressed with them but so many other people rave about them like they are the best fantasy books ever written

Yeah, I've also heard that. And then others are just like 'meh'. Weirdly divisive...

Anyway, it's not even done yet. Hate starting a series when it isn't finished yet. Even though I don't generally read whole series' at a time, so it shouldn't actually bother me too much.

Going overseas soon and looking for something to keep me occupied on the plane - and good SciFi suggestions from the MyBB book fiends.

I read Hyperion many years ago but I'm currently listening to the audiobook and I must say it's a fantastic story. Probably one of the best sci-fi ever written, IMO

If I had to rate the cantos it'd be,
1. Hyperion
2. Endymion 1
3. Fall of
4. Endymion 2

For me it would be:
1.Hyperion
2.Endymion
3.Rise of Endymion
4.Fall of Hyperion

Overall Endymion was better for me, the second Hyperion was a bit of an anti-climax after the first. That's how i remember it in any case. I enjoyed the stories of each person soo much, that I probably expected the same in the second.

But I guess that's the beauty of the whole series, it just comes together beautifully. Endymion would obviously not be anything without the Hyperion duo.

I loved Fall, actually. I knew going in that it wasn't going to follow the same Canterbury Tales-like structure, and I really loved how the story unfolded.

Especially with the Consul's meeting with the Ousters, and John Keats meeting Ummon. Some great writing there. The Cantos in general stands out as one of the series' where I looked forward the most to those sections that unravel the mysteries and questions that have been building up over the course of the series.

Close in what way? Quality or similarity?

Either way, check out some of these and take a shot at whatever tickles your fancy:

The Gap Cycle by Stephen R. Donaldson
The Commonwealth Saga by Peter F. Hamilton
The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe
The Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson
The Culture Series by Iain M. Banks
The Xeelee Sequence by Stephen Baxter
