Close in what way? Quality or similarity?

Either way, check out some of these and take a shot at whatever tickles your fancy:

The Gap Cycle by Stephen R. Donaldson
The Commonwealth Saga by Peter F. Hamilton
The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe
The Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson
The Culture Series by Iain M. Banks
The Xeelee Sequence by Stephen Baxter
The Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold

No idea why I didn't even mention his Night's Dawn trilogy

Closer in quality.

I have expanse but I'm finding it a bit hard to get into it
Will try the others

Gene Wolfe
Some people think he's the best (scifi) author alive. I started with The Shadow of the Torturer and picked up on this:
Wolfe's writing frequently relies on the first-person perspectives of unreliable narrators
Which makes for an interesting reading experience. I never finished the book but feel compelled to pick it up again, or else try one of the Long Sun books. Do you find his style is quite recognizable between different series'?

A short history of nearly everything - Bill Bryson

Loving this, very accessible science and quite humorous. Will go back to fiction after this though.

Try 'At Home' as well. Same format but a journey through the house.

Reading Fearless by Eric Blehm, a navy seal book but really struggling to get into it. Got halfway but put it on the back burner until mid December so I can read it on the beach from the start.

People only read fiction? No business or self improvement books?

I've done 'Superforecasting', 'Start With Why' and 'Mind of a Fox' and have 'Thinking, Fast and Slow' on my Kindle.

Some escapism is always good every now and again though.

Also done:
start with why (great)
All Malcolm Gladwell (awesome)
ghost in the wires (Hugely entertaining)
Physics of the future
Scrum
Exceptional organizations
Moonwalking with Einstein
Plenty more....

I do think it's recognisable, but he's got quite a varied repertoire.

He's a true craftsman, imo. Numerous people have written masters' and PhD theses on The Book of the New Sun alone, for example, as well as full-length books about the deeper meaning and allegories. You don't need to go this deep into it to enjoy it, I certainly didn't, but it shows the depth.

Not business or self-improvement stuff (not the cheesy kind anyway), but do love non-fiction myself. History, science, biographies, some travel etc.

Proper fiction can also lead to self-improvement. :)

Just picked up Hyperion. Only a few pages in and wondering what have I got myself into. This shall be my first 'hard SciFi' book.

I wouldn't consider it 'hard scifi' at all to be honest. I feel it's more space opera than anything else

More like space fantasy.

For hard scifi Night's Dawn (or probably anything Peter F Hamilton) is a go... he gets very technical about things.
