What car did you first learn to drive in?

My dad's 1988 Audi 500 SE.

Might explain my love for Audis.

I remember the only issue was the power steering hydraulic pump that kept on leaking.

Did my drivers test in a little Opel Corsa that my gran won in a competition she entered @ her local Spar. Then directly after that I started driving in a VW Polo Playa in the city. Thrown into the deep end pretty much as I had never really driven in the city before.

Man oh man does that one bring back memories....
My grandfather tought me in a series 1 on the farm.
The steering was extremely heavy and not really connected to the front wheels, the brakes was non existant but I was smiling all the way.
Also had to stop every 30min to let it cool down.

I learned in my parent's 85 Opel Ascona 1.8 GSI and 85 Opel Senator 3.0E

A blue one with the rally lights, extremely heavy pedals with heavy steering. All the torque was up high above 3000rpm and not much around idle. It would stall if I didn't get the clutch and accelerator action just right. None of the forgiving clutch action of modern cars.

And then a white Opel Senator with blue seats which was automatic and power everything. Easy and comfortable to drive.

1990 something Isuzu KB double cab, no power steering and dodgy clutch made for an interesting day. I was about 10. Then went onto my mom's 2003 Polo 1.6 which was much much better,

When I was 13 I learned to drive in my dad's 1989 Toyota Corolla 1.6L. It was white with black bumpers. No power steering and a hideous seat cover pattern which made him put on seat covers. They were all the range back in the day. The memories.

My dad's old kombi.

Gearbox was vrot and you basically started in 3rd. The side door used to fall off if you opened it.
Memories!

Wasn't allowed to drive it though on my own, although I did pseudo learn to drive on it.
Then I got a Chevy Firenza oil guzzler (1 pint a week!) which friends totalled when they borrowed it when I was away, then a Mazda 323 which I drove to Jhb and back a few times when I was working in Pretoria, then I left SA for Shanghai and finally got my drivers licence >10 years later in when I bought a Beijing Jeep (aka Cherokee).

Finally got my SA licence when I brought my China licence back here and had it converted.

My ex's opel corsa a few years ago :p

It had racing seats which was really uncomfortable. and we were close to the Zimbabwean border so I was sooooooooo scared they would shoot us (no idea why) and I almost ran over a cyclist

My brother's friends were panelbeaters; moved cars around for them when I was 15.

Then legally started to drive at 18, on the driving school's blue Uno - that was their name too. Sometimes they would send an instructor around with a boxy Nissan Sentra, of which the alignment was out, or the Scottish instructor who I couldn't make out what he said - had a Ford Laser 1600 Sport - or a Citi Golf. Yeah, learning to drive was fun.

Learnt to drive in a beach buggy on my uncle's farm. After a day or so in that I was allowed out in the Isuzu bakkie, then used to steal the Mini my dad bought to teach my older sister to drive in. Eventually bought a 1971 Ford Escort for R400 a few days before my 18th birthday.
