Last night I suddenly got great pings(-100ms than normal) to the servers I connect to to play games on , but I could not stay connected for longer than 30 s !!!!! . I tried again this morning and the same problem , I have not had any problems so far , and now suddenly this crap starts ? . Anybody else have the same problem ?

with iBurst you must accept and be prepared for the ups and downs ... it is part of the service, great when works, but most of the time it doesn't ...

it seems iburst suffer's from 'contagious' problems that can be tramsmitted through bad IP's :)

I'm not talking about disconnects to iBurst , but to the game servers themself , I hope this VoIP upgrades of the towers is not screwing us

I don't think you need upgrade of the tower to get VoIP ...

To guarantee quality of service for voip towers had to be upgraded. There is a recent artical about it sumwhere.

OMG ....I cant even to the telkom local speed test ...page does not open after 3 min !!! ...no really ..anybody else in centurion experiencing same probs?

Yes, I get frequent service disconnections. The connection to iburst is still up but nothing happens at all. This used to happen on dial-up some years ago but they fixed it, unlike WBS

Ooops did I just pat Telkom's hand, but to be honest iburst's service stinks bigtime.

Somehow I suspect they have too many subscribers for too little overall bandwidth available and so WBS deliberately stops users from staying connected using ploys like stopping all ip, not acknowledging your signon attempts, stopping even minor downloads to name but 3 ploys

that's the time when you cancel your (lack of) service ... seriously if you have an option to get ADSL, there is no reason to stay with WBS ... it cost less and it is gazillion times more reliable!

I am in Centurion and I have been getting these problems since about Tuesday.

Avg Speed Today: <1KBps
Avg Speed Thurs: <4KBps
Avg Speed Wed: <1KBps

Today I decided I have had enough and have phoned the helpdesk. Of course, they tried to swing the "We'll get a technician to get back to you" story at me (which they never do get back to me) - but I basically demanded that I get an alternative solution. The helpdesk employee was kind enough to run around and get someone for me right there.

I spoke to a technician (no names will be mentioned) - and he said he would phone me back - at this point I realised I wasn't going to get away from that general line of responses. He phoned back a while later (amazing!) and he said he spoke to the 'administrator' and that everything was in order at the Centurion BS.
He started to try and troubleshoot the problem by telling me to download DrTCP. I told him that I had been with WBS for about 3 months now and I have never had a speed issue until now and NO SETTINGS HAD BEEN CHANGED. In any case, he insisted we carried on. I also mentioned that I had my modem plugged into a router and the MTU was already set to 1352 there (and always has been). In any case, I downloaded DrTCP and set the MTU to 1352 as he instructed, restarted. Suprise-suprise - it was still downloading at unbearable speeds. After sitting in silence with him on the other end of the line trying to think of something else to do - he said he would phone me back later (16:30 to be exact). I will let you know what happens.

PS - Telkom Speed Test has been tried twice by me today and on both occassions:

This is EXACTLY the problem I experienced, even the +- 600 seconds for the speedtest

Ok, he just phoned back. No fix for it.

He said he will try to take this to someone higher up the 'food chain'.

What I don't understand is everyone here is complaining about the Centurion BS - two days ago when i phoned in they said that all the complaints they were getting were from the Centurion BS. Today when I phoned they said lots of complaints were from the Centurion BS. HOW THE HELL CAN THEY TELL US THAT THE CENTURION BS IS FINE???

On a lighter note - earlier this year:

My iBurst is also almost dead and I connect to the Wonderboom tower. Was the same yesterday. Come to think of it, I can’t remember if I had any acceptable speed during this whole week.
