Re. Rondebosch cafe and Video- Still running. Not sure about current prices, but they do have specials that run every few months. Same as the R800 for x movies, or Rx for 50 movies- changes with the weather.

Then, of course, like old pegleg quiksilver above, there is the auto-gordian-knot DVD back up method. Works wonders:)

You can't always watch two movies in one night, especially if you drank too much rum.
ARRRRRR.
and fall asleep.

So why not copy it to watch the next day or later?

Damn ... who else uses pushplay? Looks like a really good concept ...

Plazma - how did it work out for you? Convenience wise?

It was pretty cool. New movies just be there in my mailbox once a week or so. I had the '2 movies at a time' option. You can have up to 4 movies at the same time, I think.
The only reason I gave it up was because there is no return-point in my suburb, and I had to drive quite far to return the dvd's.
If Pushplay creates a drop-point near my house I would re-join instantly.

So if you live in a place like Rondebosch or Claremont, you'd have absolutely no problems, there are drop points all over the place.

Went to Rondebosch Cafe and Video the other day. Latest special was R50 for 20 dvds :D

Need to find some way of ripping as many dvds as I can in an evening. Recommendations?

Currently dvd decrypting to IFO then autoGK to high res avi. Have had some issues with dvddecrypter lately- seems to struggle when ripping series. Any ideas?

we usually pay R50 for 3 or R22 for one new release which usually gets ripped.

I do what i call semi-permanent lending...

I pay about R20 for a new release which isn't always bleeding-edge stuff, it comes with a free old release... In SA it is definitely cheaper to rent movies than be a pirate and, if you rent, you are probably allowed to 'cache' the movie on your pc, u know, so it loads smoother next time!

R29 bucks a movie at Video Spot in Craighall, good selection (foreign, stand-up comedy, etc). I think it's a little cheaper for older titles. I also rent, rip and watch at whenever...

I pretty much gave up renting and buying DVDs when Nu Metro and Ster Kinekor started putting those crap anti-piracy adverts at the start of every DVD I bought or rented.

They accused me of being a pirate so I thought what the heck, might as well live up to their accusation

"You wouldn't download a car?" ... um yeah...

I don't need to be accused of being a thief for something I bought. You don't want me to pirate? Quit putting your stupid accusations on my DVDs.

Same with all the adverts.... if you want me to watch adverts I expect the DVD to be a d@mn sight cheaper than what I am paying for it.
