What do you think about African babies being adopted (Madonna) ???

Why not support the child's paternal father, house them, feed them, educate the little boy for life and give him the chance to succeed in his own society?

This sums up my feelings about this latest fad doing the rounds in Hollywood.

Maybe it is a fad but as long as they do right by the child then it's win-win IMO. Remember for one reason or another these children have been put up for adoption by the parents.

Carte Blanche actually did a show on this a while back and said SA whites adopt white European babies and white Europeans and Americans adopt black African babies.

So we have babies crisscrossing the ocean when there is a demand and a supply in both countries.

Fad or no fad, loss of culture or not, the reality is that for more black babies are given up for adoption than adopted in South Africa and those children will have a MUCH better life overseas.

Typically the SA govt accused SA whites of being racist,they also made a big fuss over loss of culture.Wether they are right or not it remains your right to choose the race of the baby that u want to adopt.

And to whinge about something that will have zero impact on your life but greatly improve the life of someone else is selfish in the extreme.

And to say things like "When somebody takes a child from their native culture, that is in itself an act of aggression" is naive.

Does he mention better education,medical care,not growing up in a fosterhome or a full belly every night?

So please explain then to me the incidences of teenage drug abuse and suicide in the Western world ???.

They get the chance to grow up, use drugs and kill themselves. More than they're likely to get if they grow up poor and malnourished. Somehow despite western teenagers dying in droves western countries typically manage to have a higher average life expectancy.

If it helps the child, it's good! People seem to get upset when westerners adopt african children, but where are the outcry's at the millions of children that die every year right here in africa?

if they go through the adoption procedures then i cant really argue. Though, imagine telling your kid "you're a sympathy case". Rather put all that effort and money into helping a whole group of kids. And by effort, i don't mean give to a charity. Do the work yourself! It'll probably be much better to have a "Madonna rescue centre" as a publicity than "Madonna takes child away from home".

I hate all celebrities, and anything they do! The reason the world is in a state it is, is because society did not force Paris Hilton's parents to kill her at birth. And I also blame the first person that bought a madonna record and gave her the false impression that she is a mucisian.

The problem is what happens when the fad passes as well as the glitz and glamour. Be wary, the next fad might be giving children up for adoption

1 - Angelina Jolie's been taking kids in for adoption for years. It's not a 'fad' as far as she's concerned.

2 - Africa is dangerous. Africa has shortages. Too many kids die here as it is. If one westerner wants to help one kid, let him/her.

3 - The publicity around this is obscene.

4 - It's not better to die here in 'your own culture' than it is to live elsewhere.

I don't understand the fuss.

A boy was given up for adoption, a lady wanted to adopt him, the lady's background check says she will be a suitable mother, the boy gets a family.. That is the perfect story.

So the mother is super rich and famous and the boy has to leave the country that he currently is in.. So what... If I was an orphan and someone wanted to adopt me and take me to a life of wealth, safety and happiness what do you think I would do..

And to all the people saying Madonna should rather help out more children, bugger off.. Why should she? She is free to do with her money whatever she wants. I can bet she gives more money to charity than all the members of this site combined. So until you are doing more for the world stop judging others.

This is the typical British attitude that you see on BBC and I experienced living there. Leave the women alone.

I have no problem with anyone adopting, except celebrities. They do it as a fad.

Normal folk, that does not have children or are struggling to have. Please adopt. You can be sure that they want a child, and will shower that child with love.

But celeb's. Its a fad. Madonna, has never ever set her foot on african soil, now all of asudden she's flying out, adopting and flying back. If she wanted to do good, why not adopt in england, or the states where she's from? Dont tell me there are just as poor people in england (not as many tho) or the states. I am 100% sure there are also babies out there to adopt, babies with no living family, no one to care for them.

Please, this adaption is to make her look good at social functions

Nicole Richie brings us to another point. They say South African's are racists for not adopting outside their race, does that mean Americans are also racist for not adopting within their race?

It's probably easier on a kid if you're the same race as him. Less confusion more most his/her childhood.
