Been using the same 24" samsung since 2009 and it hasn't given issues apart from the bezel screw but that's my own fault.
HDMI can extend to several meters. Only reason screen and peripherals are usually close to each other is because traditionally they've been that way for work.not exactly, but wireless keyboard & mouse just doesn't work for me, especially for gaming
so ... if your input devices and your monitor are all plugged into the same PC by default they're gonna be relatively close to each other, and the only way you're sitting more than 1m from your monitor is if you have some crazy orangutan arms (or wireless input devices which is a choice, albeit a wrong choice for gaming)
