Hi, I just read that article that was posted from the FM on myadsl news where Vodacom is considering giving away PCs, etc on signing a 3G contract ... what is Vodacom going to do with regards to pricing to entice people to sign the contracts in the first place. I don't believe giving away PCs, etc will entice people if the monthly subscription and limitations are the way they are at the moment.

It seems like they want to draw the private individual and not only the corporate clients here, and if that's their intension, they'll have to drop their prices drastically for the normal man in the street to afford it.

I would love the pricing to drop 'drastically', but I am afraid that it is already quite agressively competitive. In fact, the pricing is a bargain, even compared to most overseas mobile broadband offerings. So don't hold your breath.

Prolly easiest way is to go to T-Mobile, Vodafone, Orange's websites and look up their rates. When i went overseas i investigated that and i've found our cellphone call rates seemed to be quite similar to overseas [if not identical]. Data tarifs different story though, but they can get ADSL uncapped for 30 EUR per month , so you can't really compare as people will install ADSL and not even look at 3G/GPRS unless it's a business requirement.

Of course one has to take into account the average salaries people get overseas. If cellphone tarifs in europe is identical to SA...then somewhere someone is making more profit if the price in a 1st world country and 3rd world country is identical.

For example here's some prices below: [0.4 eur ~ R3.20]
