Hi Guys,

so interesting issue I came across today,

lenovo v510 laptop ,
12GB RAm
1TB HDD
core i5 7th gen

running win 10 Pro,

constantly running 100% on disk usage, on taskmanager, system.
did ALL of these things, including the little known StorAHCI.sys driver fix, that involved digging inside the registry to fix something else,
https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledg...manager-improve-pc-performance-on-windows-10/

hard drive checks out with HDD tune and victoria, so not damaged in any way, (old school platter).
disabled the tasks mentioned in the article, ran checkdisk

one odd thing I noticed, updates were paused, unpaused them,
let it download an immediately Disk utilization went down.

finished, restarted, still 100% constantly,
checked again for updates loads a lenovo firmware constantly, but after a restart goes back up to 100% once again.

noticed this user using a cracked version of office 2010, cracked with autoKMS, not mine:crylaugh:
will load a different version for them anyway,

but

what else should I try?, besides linux mint 18 cinnamon:p

how did you know? yes it is installed actually....
is disabled until reboot....
Esnt something like that.

Drives your disk to 100% but doesn't show in task manager.

Uninstall eset and you'll see the problem is gone, I wasn't able to identify where the incompatibility is.

So one of our machines now run non eset AV whilst the others are still on eset without issue.

In some cases, it's Eset's services. In others, it's Windows Defender's scanning service. I've even seen a faulty SATA port cause this.

Since the laptop is new, likely already on C.U. and likely not faulty hardware-wise, I'd try use Disk Clean-up to remove any leftover files from previous upgrades, and clear out the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder. The OS might be trying to unpack a download that's been corrupted, causing 100% disk utilisation.

If that helps nothing, come back and tell us.

Any chance you have MS Update KB4041676 installed? That causes 100% disk utilization, came out on the 10th

Must be Microsoft mining Bitcoin!!!!

would not be surprised one little bit with that......
I mean multiply by all the PC's running win 10 in the world, I sure its not a fluke.....

maybe if they see you constantly connected to the internet, and always on, with few firewalls,
switches it into "BTC" mining mode.....

Had issue with eset and 100% disk usage, had to remove it and it was a painful experience to uninstall it, took ages.
