What game are you playing now? (Part 2)

There are exceptions but an overwhelming amount of unreal engine games suffer from micro stutter.
From what I have been reading the issue stems from people running settings higher than what they can handle and a simple downscaling of settings fixes the issue immediately

It has nothing to do with settings, you can have the most god tier monster overclocked 9800X3D and 4090 top of all of the benchmark charts PC and the game will still stutter because it has to do on the fly PSO compilation which can be a couple of milliseconds and you barely notice it or it can be a couple hundred milliseconds that's going to be massive hitch in your gameplay.

Epic has added some tools for devs to use but it's still not perfect where devs are saying it only caches about 70% of the PSOs but I also heard because CD Projekt has swapped over to UE they're constantly helping Epic to fix things.

I started playing Heavy Rain the other night.

Old game, but I hear it's really good. I couldn't help but laugh in the first chapter though where you have to find your son in a busy mall and you can call out to him, but it's the exact same voice line every time which sounds super jank

"Jaaaason!" "Jaaaason!" "Jaaaason!"
The score is still incredible. So memorable. Like this piece.

I'm having the best time playing Half Life 2 again, I remember the grand scheme of things but it has been so long that I can't remember the small things so it's basically new again.

What I do remember is 20 years ago installing it with the 5 discs and having to update it which took a week, now I fully downloaded Half Life 2, Episode 1 and 2 and it took maybe 3 minutes.

Finished Just Cause 3, pretty decent, the padding was not great tho, but the explosions and chaos are super awesome, so eh.

New Surviving mars challenge run. Hermit crab challenge. Can only have 1 populated dome at a time. Moving the pop along like a hermit crab abandoning the old one. Pushes a very different game style!

I'm still busy with Horizon Forbidden West. Feels like months now. I actually wish the game was a bit smaller. And still have the dlc too.

Longer sessions of Stalker 2 develops this issue where it feels like the mouse has a dead zone where it does not respond to the initial input, also micro stutters and lower fps. Stealth mechanics are annoying, light / visibility does not seem to be taken into account. Just if you are obscured by a hard object or not. Could excuse this with mutants, but the humans are wearing full on gas masks and see perfectly out them.

Much of the game feels like a bunch of early draft ideas, that could have used a few rounds of refinement. Ideas that need just 1 or 2 steps to take it from being above average to great. Still enjoying the game but have these moments constantly where I sit and ask myself why they just didn't take the idea 1 step further. For an example, gun mods, there are no visual changes to the guns, supposedly change the stock but remains exactly the same. Small details like that really would have made all the difference. NPCs could have had reactions to their buddies being dead. They continue as normal, ignoring their dead friends. Chillin around campfire next to their friend's corpse after being smashed by a mutant.

Out of lesser zone, avoiding the main story. Exploring as much as I can.

It is an incredible game but for me, the excitement was not there compared to HZD. I got really bored with HFW , just rushed through to finish the campaign and called it quits. How you finding the game so far? I assume you did play HZD?

Want to start Dead space remake. Not a horror fan & wondering how are the jump scares & is it the sort of game that forces you to manage your resources and scavenge?
