What game are you playing now? (Part 2)

This old gem

With a EMB Reshade mod so its not as dark and depressing as the original
But it completely removes GTA4's unique feel and awesome atmosphere and makes it look like every other game :(

There's your problem.

PS, it's likely he was talking about real life vandalism (which afaik has happened before), not anything in the game:

Either way.

Will treat it like all Ubi games.... wait a year when the price drops to 10% OG price, before I even look at it.

For me it's waiting until I get over my last, long-lasting ubi game fatique.

I play an open world ubi game like AC then I have to wait 5 years until I'm mentally and physically prepared to dive into another overly long, same old same old ubi torture chore game again. :p

Looking at social media it seems loads of people are not happy, in fact its so bad it was even a point of discussion in Japans parliament.
There's always been controversy when a new UbiSoft game gets released, and sure as hell this won't be the last. Remember when FarCry5 was released? Religious nuts were up in arms over who-knows-what.

I'm playing Shadows, not that far into the game but so far I haven't come across anything that would deem as disrespectful to the Japanese culture.

This game sure makes the PS5 Pro shine though

Maybe leave it to the Japanese, to tell you if it is offensive to the Japanese. Idk.

You don't see this every day.

A day-one patch for Assassin’s Creed Shadows prevents defacing shrines, amid concern from Japanese politicians about real-life copycats.
...
  • Citizens without weapons no longer bleed when attacked, reducing unintended blood spill in temples/shrines
  • Tables and racks in temples/shrines are now indestructible (Some objects like drums or bowls can still be broken as they are generic ones present everywhere in the world) (Tables are still dynamic objects, so players can still move/push them).
Ubisoft told IGN the day-one patch is for all players and not Japan-specific, but it’s hard to see these changes in particular being anything but a response to the controversy surrounding the game in the country.

I don't like dark and depressing colours, IV was unique when it came out with its darkened atmosphere

At the time games were bright and colourful, think Far Cry 3

Anf that's what I love, I can't stand the constant dark and especially wet and rain atmospheres in todays games, find it depressing, kinda like you would find a dark and rainy day in reality, depressing.

So, I don't want to cause a political debate here but why are everyone in the world walking on eggshells when it's Japan but if it relates to Muslim or Christianity or any other religion for that fact it's acceptable or not as frowned upon as this?

Just a genuine question not from me as a completely neutral non-religious person.

The point about seeing it happen in game and then acting it out in real life is also not valid. GTA has been doing some shady stuff for ages.

All of this just sounds like an agenda.

What about the black guy?

I don't sre anyone saying anything about it now?

Wonder why

Oh you talking about the gay black dude that bed They/thems or sleep with married women thats historically known for being faithful. There is plenty of crap all over the net, suppose it just depends on what Echo chamber you follow on what you get.

Personally I just wish we can go back to the day's when games where fun and judged by performance and bugs, instead of politics and romance options.

Who's walking on egg shells? Certainly not Ubisoft. If you watched the video, then it'd be clear that the problem is exactly that they feel their culture was disrespected, when they as a culture put an emphasis on respecting other cultures in their direct dealings (I mean... Who knows what they think in private on an individual basis, but the public response looks polite to me). Neither I, nor I suspect anybody else, expects them to retaliate with violence to it. Do you? They're not even shouting. The video shows a cool and calm debate. See any blood splashing anywhere? Organs and limbs flying? Beheadings? Crucifixions? Impalements? Burnings at the stake? There isn't even any cars being driven into crowds, mass stabbings/shootings. Certainly zero wars being fought over the matter.

Wrt the attitudes to religions like Christianity and Islam - I think I speak for many people not in those groups - We WISH they would react to perceived slights as calmly as the Japanese are to the game in question. Explain their views in such clear and polite terms. You know... Like good and decent people.

The world, and its history for the last 4 thousand years or so would be vastly more humane. Just better. Even present politics would be lightyears better.

The hate focused towards the game and studio on public forums is what I'm referring to actually. I almost guarantee that Ubisoft did not do this intentionally and it was just an oversight from a studio not familiar with the culture. I find society in general not in SA seem to always pick sides. Ubisoft and these Devs are heartless for what they did here but if these same Devs made a game where you can slash a pride flag for example it would get praise.

It does sometimes come across as in general some religions, beliefs, culture etc deserves more respect than others.

Anyways I'm out I'm playing the game a bit later to see maybe even pull an all nighter.

I think much is being exaggerated, but when looking at Japan's own concerns and what was said by Kada, quoting IGN:

“I fear that allowing players to attack and destroy real-world locations in the game without permission could encourage similar behavior in real life. Shrine officials and local residents are also worried about this. Of course, freedom of expression must be respected, but acts that demean local cultures should be avoided.”

Prime Minister Ishiba responded:

“How to address this legally is something we need to discuss with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Defacing a shrine is out of the question - it is an insult to the nation itself. When the Self-Defense Forces were deployed to Samawah, Iraq, we ensured they studied Islamic customs beforehand. Respecting the culture and religion of a country is fundamental, and we must make it clear that we will not simply accept acts that disregard them.”

The first challenge that Japan has is, in some ways, historical in terms of Shinto and Buddhism. I am not going to touch on that. The second challenge comes from the disrespect shown by some foreigners, often seen in daily streams where Asians are mistreated. I mean, just go and watch Kick.

Japan doesn't wish for miscreants to enter its nation and start defacing shrines. They are very careful of any disruption to unity, especially that which is found in their history.

In my opinion, they just want to get ahead of what may be a problem for their future.

What is being said by outsiders, in today's world, everyone knows more than those that are actually affected by it. Yes, it is an agenda.

I own all Assassins creed games except Mirage and Shadows. I only bought Origins, full price at that. The rest was give aways at one point or another. Even own some of them on Epic.

As long as remains a verbal debate. It's fine in my opinion. They can even, as a country, decide to boycott Ubisoft. Even that is more than polite, in context of what you get from some religions.
