Oooooph, see its around R180pm. Is the sub worth it? Also spending on cars etc?
Its expensive. The in-game store is also in US$, so its a costly investment from our perspective. You are looking at $11.95 to $15.95 per car and per track. You get enough free base content to start out, but as you progress through the licenses you need to start buying stuff.
You do get bulk discounts; 10% off for 3 - 5 items; 15% off for 6 or more. You also get participation credits. Enter enough official races during the year and you can earn as much as $40 in credit.
You simply cannot play it at any sort of competent level without a proper steering wheel. There is no AI. Its 100% online against other people. Lots of pro-drivers use it. Lando Norris of F1 is a regular on the server and used it extensively to stay sharp in the F1 off-season.
Its heavily regulated as well through a user protest system. Because people are paying a lot of money, trolling, griefing and reckless driving is not tolerated. Drive the wrong way and the other drivers can and will protest you and you'll be banned very quickly. And because people are paying money to be there, a lot are reluctant to even risk upsetting other people and want to get their value, so overall the driving is far superior to anything you will find on any other sim. Of course there are exceptions, you will come across a troll or two and the driving can still be bad because not everyone is good at it, but once you get out of the rookie stuff and start racing with more serious people, the experience generally improves.
Some people do take it a little too seriously, so have a mute button mapped when the iRaging starts over the in-game voice chat.
Its more a hobby than a game to be honest. If you want a quick arcadey pick-up race or two you have things like Assetto Corsa and Project Cars. If you want something a little more sim you have rFactor2 and Automobilista. If you want to go all the way its iRacing.
