I want to get myself a GPS for christmas, but one of the cheap ones. Wich one is better? Tomtom or Garmin? Is there a website that compares them? (I cant find one).

Is the traffic cameras on the Tomtoms or not?

Any help would be great.

TOMTOM Start

I used to use the route66 GPS on my Nokia Navigator which was brilliant however the TomTom Start is better

It's easy to use, VERY quick start up time and you can connect to the Net and download celebrity voices and other gimmicks

It has a good easy to understand layout and it DOES have the traffic cameras built in etc

got mine at GAME for R1100

Most of the units are a much of a muchness,
I have a Garmin from 2005 and i refuse to update the maps at R1500 a time so still running the maps I bought it with,
Incredible corruption will have GPS on special in DEC for R999 but avail is only starting in DEC, i would say thats your best bet.

I also loved Route 66 on my Nokia Navigator - so easy to use...

Was really disappointed when I borrowed my dad's Garmin - the interface wasn't intuitive. One nice thing about the Garmin is that you can get Tracks4Africa (for off-road/4x4 routes).

There's a new company, Navitek - or some such - the software looks REALLY good - 3D mountains, etc.

I'm not a heavy GPS user - there's no need living in PE - but the excellent TomTom app on my iphone would lean me in that direction if I was buying a standalone device.
