I'm checking for phones that can do MTN 3G especially dual sim ones.

For instance will a phone with this work?
2G/3G: GSM900/1800 and WCDMA2100

If you've money to spare buy an LG G3 and never ever look back....

Yes, but get the LG G3 D858 Dual Sim :D

The LG G3 also does Telkom LTE (TD 2300MHz), the Samsungs and most of the Sony's can't do that.

Of course it also does Cell C, MTN and Vodacom LTE.

Sim :
(1) FD-LTE : 2100(B1) / 1800(B3) / 2600(B7) MHz; TD-LTE : 2600(B38) / 1900(B39) / 2300(B40) / 2600(B41) MHz; WCDMA : 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 MHz; TD-SCDMA : 1900 / 2000 MHz; GSM : 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz, and
(2) GSM : 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz.

Almost anything that you would ever encounter.

I'm actually looking at the sub R1000 budget phones, new and secondhand.

I'm thinking, with the MTN weekly bundles combined with Whatsapp calling could be kind of interesting deal.
