What happened to HTC in South Africa?

I recently got myself an HTC Wildfire S as my official party phone (too scared to take the Galaxy S2 out with me) and when I went to register on www.htcsense.com, there is no South Africa in the list! :(

What gives? Did Leaf not want to hand over to HTC and now South Africa is "punished" because of that?

Also, Vodacom is selling HTC phones dirt-cheap now......

What gives? Does anybody know the full story?

Not sure the current market is perfect for them and they weren't doing to bad from the surface. The Desire range did pretty well in SA.

My only guess would be their take up of WM handsets slowing them down.

HTC sense one is easy.

Vodacom and MTN messed with the ROMs in such a way that the locating stopped working. When you tried to use the htc sense website to loacte your device on a Vodacom or MTN it did not work, in the same time stock phones or more so, self imported phones did.

On of the MyBB forum users (cant recall the name but I am sure if you scan the Desire HD thread will get it) reported HTC for false advertizing. HTC instead of trying to stuff around trying to find out exactly why some phones work while others dont, just removed SA from the supported list.

Leaf's always been next to useless, but it's definitely gone from bad to worse.

Their last Twitter and FB updates were on the 6th of December... :wtf: However, I did come across this - which is encouraging I suppose.

Can't test it though, as htcsense.com's support for ICS is non-existent. What happens if you specify, say, UK?

Anyone notice if you go to www.htcsense.com South Africa is completely removed?

I logged a dispute with ASA regarding HTCsense not working as advertised, Leaf responded to them saying it does work - I have now sent screenshots showing it doesn't work... I'll see what happens... the ability to track and erase my phone without any real 3rd party app was a big selling point to me, as I constantly misplace my phone.

And another thread about the issue: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...ww-htcsense-com-Location-service-work-for-you

Leaf is stuffing up the brand here in SA.
Excessively slow time to availability, then dramatically quick phase outs.
Very infrequent OTA updates, non existent local expertise, and clearly no ability to influence HTC to fix buggy software.
I love HTC devices but, like most else, our local representation is killing the brand.

The reason for this is that HTC was in the process of moving into SA: http://gaming.do.co.za/articles/localnews/htc_launches_sub_saharan_office.htm

This is good news indeed, but I must say good luck to them, Samsung has been very active pushing their products. You don't have to go far to see an ad of some Samsung product or another and just recently I went to a cell shop to see what is available to renew my contract and everything was Samsung this or Samsung that.

Thanks a lot for that! Explains a lot, I wish they had atleast brought the Sensation XE here though back in Dec, ah well, happy with my GS2.

I hope this means faster release times and support of both hardware and software, i like HTC, and realy like their new range and would like to at some point own one of their flagship droids even if its next year with a One X2.
