What happened to the Centurion cameras?

The four that I know of are gone, but there could be more that I don't know of.

Two of them were on Botha street heading towards Irene from PTA and the other two were on either side of the N1, close to Makro.

Have they been relocated to some hidden place, less visible to drivers? Has anyone seen where they have been relocated to?

I'll post if I happen to see one, but so far nothing - they have just vanished

Yea, i noticed that too, i actually saw people pulling down the ones on the N1 last week , they didn't look very official but who knows...

The one in Botha just as you come into Centurion from PTA [corner of the Groenkloof reserve] you could see from miles away, i wouldn't be surprised if they removed that one because it was so obvious ;)

Maybe they werent making enough fees from them anymore.

Anyway, I try to drive mostly on the the left lane at the best speed i can manage cuase the mobile cameras only cover the inner two lanes...

And what do you mean 2 in each direction? I know each system has two poles, and I think the small one is the flash box and the big one is the camera box...

Maybe they want to install that new system they tested in Durbs. It apparently reads your numberplate at one bridge, and again at the next bridge, and then work out the average speed in between. I see they are drilling holes at some of the bridges, looks very suspicious.

You are correct, the cameras with one little 'window' don't have the flash built in and thus there are 2 poles, however the ones that I have seen in JHB have two little 'windows', one for the flash and one for the actual camera, thus only one pole. I meant one on each side of the highway in the Centurion area.

Yeah, since it is right next to the robots, I got a chance to get a closer look at where the camera was. The camera had been neatly removed - no cut metal sticking out from the bottom or anything of that sort, so it seems that there was no foul play :D

Pretoria is swarming these days with the more portable laser cameras. They lurk and stalk you from all angles. I think the fixed camera’s were getting to expensive to operate.

Shall have to wait and see how many of the new trapping devices are operational after the rain season and man/woman handling by the Metro.

I was on the R21, just before the N1 off-ramp, overtook a car and then I saw it - the faaking Metro police Toyota Venture/Vulture (that normally preys in Jean Avenue, just 200m away from Gerhard Street).

So now I'm waiting for the fine - think I was doing 140km/h. Bastards. :(

Every single camera in Centurion has disappeared over the past 2 weeks. Used to be a camera just downhill from where I live... on Jean lane after it turns toward Old Jhb. after that one and the one on the N1 disappeared, I started looking for the ones I knew about... they're all gone. No new ones that I can find either.

Are they gonna put the cameras on the N1 between Pretoria & Johannesburg for the Xmas season?

I also smell a rat - why would they completely remove it?
