What happened to the Open Day?

A week or so back, at the height of the media war, and just after Sentech's big security/privacy breach which followed on the heelso f the open proxy fiasco, therodent and other senior members urged that we back off slagging Sentech and advocated a cooperative approach in order to try and get the service running properly.

So what's the progress on this?? Rodent mentioned something about an open day where Sentech would theoretically play open cards on their network and everyone would work together to resolve the issues. Is this still happening?

From what I can see there are still a lot of issues to be resolved:

1. High packet loss and latency, possibly attributed to the way the microwave backbone is configured between the towers(???).
2. Sub-par and inconsistent bandwidth - probably mostly caused by the first issue.
3. The traffic shaping/bandwidth management issue where some users apparently get way more bandwidth than others on the same package and also where multi-threaded d/l's are cumulatively faster than single thread d/l's.
4. Frequent disconnects.
5. An SMTP server that's permanently on the blink, often taking days to relay email, with attachments getting stripped.
6. Security issues around authentication - using plain text passwords and users often being locked out of their account. Also security issues surrounding the abuse of their bandwidth by outside parties, i.e. leaving their proxy open.
7. Billing issues where it seems many people have not been billed correctly or at all in recent months, and the online account query portal showing rubbish figures.
8. The overall chasm between Sentech's marketing, their customer's expectations and what they really deliver - e.g. Winston Smith comparing the 128k package to 56k dial up on the one hand versus their marketing campaign that gives the impression you'll get unlimited high speed bandwidth. Hence the ASA complaint.
9. An unclarified and wishy washy AUP that seems to imply that their network difficulties are the fault of their users, and which dances around the issue of capping users.

We don't seem to be any closer to resolving any of these problems - how long will the process take and are we in co-operative mode or at war again???

Maybe Sentech don't want to 'stoop to' the level of actually engaging with their customers? Or "troublemakers" (those who have the gall to actually complain about not receiving the service they're paying for), as they like to see it .. or maybe they think that there are no South Africans knowledgable enough to be able to help them with their network (apparently they've flown in people from IPWireless now to look at the network).
