Why am being an idiot with my money when clearly this is entrapment by the authorities, you are the idiot that want's to succumb to this extortion.Bloody hell, we don't purposefully go out to break the law or the speed limit.Damn it!!
Let's get one thing straight - I couldn't give a rats ass what you do with your money. How you spend it, as you implied is your prerogative, sure.
Using the "I was going 160 in my clapped out UNO and didn't know" excuse doesn't fly. You know when you're speeding. Just look down for a second at the speedo and it will confirm this fact for you, too. So no, genius, this isn't entrapment. Its the law. Speeding = fines and possibly jail time. Once you get your head around that, you will realise how idiotic your statement sounds.
They make use of 2 or more camera's. When you pass the first one it records your registration number and the time. When you pass the second one it does the same and then calculates how long it took you to drive from camera 1 to camera 2 and by doing so can work out your average speed as they know how far the camera's are apart.
The camera's are usually placed on a stretch of highway where there are no off/on ramps i.e. cars can go nowhere but forward towards the 2nd camera.
The reason why they are using this is because people learn where the camera's are and then slow down for them and speed back up afterwards. With a speed averaging system you cannot do that. Your average speed for the whole distance need to remain below the speed limit otherwise you get fined.
Its about how long it took you to cover the distance. So no use braking for a camera and then speeding up.
This e-toll rubbish really hacks me off, but honestly there has to be something more that can be done, I mean theoretically ( would like to state that I do not condone this nor am I inciting civil disobedience or lawlessness) a cyber attack could bring the operation and gantrys offline, I mean a DoS or a worm? People have hacked into the NSA which I am certain is more difficult than SANRAL or any other body operating in SA.
Just use the yellow line before approaching the average speed camera, the camera's are only positioned to take a snap of your registration on 2 lanes. yellow lane got no camera![]()
Looking at E-natis, the COJ incident, and many other local systems I really doubt that a cyber attack will be necessary. Just let the developers finish their system, it will be a royal fukcup the day it comes into working in any event.
shhhhhhh!!!! every e-toll I ever pass I will slow down and pull over on side and drive on side past... (for the ones that have side lanes)
I wouldn't say that, its an overseas company managing it all, not Khulala trading cc doing this government tender.
"In parliamentary written replies released earlier yesterday, Zuma said he was not required by the constitution to consider the impact of e-tolls on citizens."
Carlisle plans to use the camera system to cover more of the N1 and N2 next.
“We’ll have a nice nanny state,” he said. “It’s going to be a pleasure to drive in the Western Cape once we’ve got these roads covered.”
When I head up the West Coast road again I will pack the 'skottel braai'.
Will zoom 150 through the first camera and right up to 100m before the next, pull over and braai a tjoppie......
By the time I cross the 2nd camera my average speed will be in the region of 5km/h....
The income gap is widening, the middle class is shrinking.
