thanks chaps

looks like a Shield if I want to keep things easy to use, and I've read that one can just plug in an HDD for added storage.

Yesterday I requested and received a trial from SA Streams: https://sastreams.co.za/

some feedback:

Good
Price: R190pm
Good UK channels & UK sports selection
Not much buffering on UK channels
Most US FHD channels are 1080p
Decent & somewhat extensive EPG
VH1 classic

Bad
None of the major sports (F1, football, cricket) FHD channels are actually in FHD: they are not even HD but 576p!
Only a few of the UK series channels are FHD
Limited worldwide channel selection, e.g., no EU channels
Major buffering on some US channels, especially ESPN, Starz

Conclusion
Seeing that F1 is not in FHD, I will pass on this service.

Currently trialing https://www.fastip.tv.

Very impressed with the logical grouping of channels, and most of them are available in SD, HD, and FHD, so usable with different Internet speeds.

For the F1 fans, this service has the F1 TV channels as well.

Minimal buffering on the UK channels, plenty of other EU channels, good EPG.

I like this service a lot when compared to other ones, especially since the inclusion of Italian, German, and Spanish sports channels, there are multiple redundancies for watching F1.

Is it legal in SA?

(I don't think so?)
Of course not. They aren't legal in any country.

I see now that NTV.mx looks to have kicked the dust. That's too bad - from my experience back in the day they were by miles the best.
