What is a Port reset?

Hi

Just wondering... I had a strange problem at one of my sites. The line would synch but no authentication was successful. I tried different ISP accounts and 2 different modems and 2 different PC's. Phoned Telkom and they did a port reset over the phone and now it works. Anybody else ever had a problem like this?

AFAIK, those ports on the DSLAM are controlled by software, sometimes they lock up or encounter some sort of problem that prevents you from seeing the ESR. Telkom support have a simple little button at their disposal which simply restarts the software portion of that port.

Or, they tell you what they told me a few nights ago, its because you changed the internal range of your router from the default range, change it back and it will work. Guess what profanities flew their way? :S

the agents cant reset your port. they can only recreate the ports.
