BMX X1 2.0D S –

Fuel consumption is 22 KM/L and with a 6 feet trailer I got 20 KM/L. And it was easy to drive from JHB to Port Elizabeth in one trip.

1978 Mercedes Benz 123 series 230 auto. Have sold it long long ago and it's still going. Ahead of it's time and very comfy and reliable.

The least reliable car I have ever owned, but also the most fun. 1985 RX7 13B Rotary (series 5 engine) with Mr Turbo EFI. It made 178kw on 0.5 Bar and extremely heavy on fuel. I should add, this was not a daily and when I drove it, I drove it to enjoy it.

Toyota Corolla. I've had the 1996, 2005 and 2016 models so far. My requirement is that the car should be reliable and "just work". All models has met that requirement and they're cost-effective as well, while still maintaining good safety and all the niceties (bluetooth integration, aircon, etc).

1995 Ford Escort. Removed the original 1600 engine & replaced it with an 1800 ZTEC. Awesome power to weight ratio.

I bought myself a 2nd-3rd or 4th hand BMW 318i E46 model a few years back. Really enjoyed the drive and build quality but the thing must have been made on a Friday afternoon after lunch because I had endless issues with it. Eventually sold it 3 years later after having to work on the motor 3 times in those 3 years. Was sad to see her go though.

1995 VW Kombi 2,3i...got about 430 000 km on the clock. High clearance for game viewing on crappy roads and dents and the scratches from the acacias doesn't bother me a bit. Just a bit rough on Juice @ 6,5km per litre

Peugeot 504 Station Wagon (1976-1981) - towed caravan & trailers to places where most sensible people wouldn't even attempt to go even with a 4x4!
With the back seats down the increased luggage space was big enough for the kids to sleep on the long journeys as if they were in bed.
Was ideal for transporting "stuff" when helping people move house and with roof rack fitted, carrying capacity was huge!
The replacement vehicle (Peugot 505) was a major disappointment.

My first car was a Mazda 323 (similar to the one below). It was nearly indestructible. Did over 300,000km before I moved on.

I have to agree, I bought the model after the one shown in the pic in 1980, brand new, my first car.

I went places in that car where okes in 4x4s weren't too keen on going. :D

1980s Alfa Guilletta. Great to drive only hassle was the overheating in heavy traffic in summer. But the handling and everything else was great. Then got a BMW 518 as a company car what a POS.

1988 Toyota Cressida 2.4 GLS Auto. Had it from new, still got it, over 31 years old, done over 420,000kms, still going.
No major maintenance, Owes me nothing, still trying to prevent it being stolen again.

2007 Renault Megane F1 Sport. Bought it in 2008 with 23 000km. I still drive it every day and it now has 190 000km on. Biggest cost so far is tyres. Never had any major engine issues. Roof lining is starting to come loose and the seats are worn, but man, it still drives like a go kart.
