We've had several vets warn us on the cheaper brands or even brands such as Whiskers which can cause kidney problems etc in the future.

Most vets and pet shops recommended eukanuba or hills, so we currently use hills.

True, my GF was a vet and said the same thing, there is a lot of salt in the cheaper products that in the long run shortens the life span

My cats have all absolutely hated Whiskas. Apparently (i am not personally going to attempt to test the validity of this) there is a lot of salt in Whiskas and that's why a lot of cats don't like it. I have hand raised, from roughly a day old, three of my cats (bottle fed and then slowly introduced to shop bought wet food and pellets) My cats have been fed shop bought products like Friskies and so forth and i have never had a sickly cat. My sister has a HIGHLY pedigreed Rag-Doll that is only fed Eukanuba as per breeder instructions. To my knowledge, as long as you are not feeding them "people" food, most wet and dry cat food should cater to their health needs. Its a personal choice and what you can afford in my opinion.
