Hi all,

I'm thinking of purchasing the ASUS GeForce GTX670 DirectCU II GPU, does anyone own this card? What is your experience with it?

I'm looking to play some of the new FPS games mostly.

Thanks in advance!

To answer the original question, a 670 is still great for 1080/1200p gaming.

It was pretty much replaced by the 760, though (pretty much the same speed, and cheaper) so unless you can get one for fairly cheap (~R3k), it isn't really worth it.

Why are you looking to get this card rather than a newer 7 or R9 xxxX series? Are you getting a good deal on it?

Yeah I thought it was a good deal, but that's why I asked my trusty forumites! I haven't really been into gaming much for ages, ask me anything about server and enterprise hardware, but I need to get jacked up on consumer stuff again.

Thanks for all the input so far.

What I'm really looking to do is build a nice gaming rig for +-R10K. That would include Motherboard, CPU, RAM and GPU, I've got everything else already.

Thanks guys :)

I have a 670 ( About a year old now, I think ) - And it's great for gaming. Haven't had performance issues in any games since I got it.

The only reason I'd avoid AMD at the moment is because I like PhysX. This can be worked around though, with a cheap GT610 or something to supplement your AMD card, and run the PhysX calculations on the side. It takes a little hacking, but it works pretty well, and you can save some money.

You like mentioning irrelevant stuff.

I have it and it's been great. I'd suggest you get the newer models though as it's definitely better and is within a reasonable price.

The only reason I'd consider Nvidia cards now from an upgrade from my 2x GTX460's would be for the GSync feature, which also requires a GSync capable screen.
If you like to play your games at the maximum detail level, and like games like Batman, where they do use PhysX, then it could be worth while to also consider Nvidia. There are mixed opinions/results with running PhysX on the CPU when you have like an AMD graphics card - but I reckon this post on TH sums it up nicely: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1885412/nvidia-physx-cpu-amd-gpu.html#11951149
