What is the maximum weight an air filter can take?

I got a new battery fitted in my car today and when the guy was fitting it, he put the battery down on the air filter in preparation to put it into the battery holder and even after that he kept trying to push around the air filter to place the battery in properly. There appears to be no visible damage except that one clip just needed to be clipped in again which I've done. Now my question is, what is the maximum weight that you can balance on the air filter without damaging it, would placing the battery on the air filter cause any damage that could be a concern in the future?

P.S This is a question that is purely out of curiosity.

Was the person fitting your battery a qualified & certified workshop auto mechanic, or perhaps just an 'unskilled labour' apprentice with little or no 'technical expertise' in matters pertaining to working with the items commonly located underneath the bonnet of a motor vehicle?

You're gonna have to sell the car.

It's not designed to carry weight so your question cannot be answered.

Yeah, but unless the air filter housing became dented or deformed or broken off it's mounting in any way, there is nothing to worry about.
Thank you. Seems like its holding in place well despite the guys forced movements of the air filter cover. Its just the one clip was loosened which I clipped back. There appears to be no dents and while it slightly moves when you move it around a little, its holding steady so I guess that's normal.

If the air filter isn't bent, has parts broken off or looks like it got squashed, you're all good.
It doesn't look like it has any broken parts or like it got squashed, not sure about the bent part since he was using quite abit of force to push it, but it appears to be ok. Would I notice anything strange when I'm driving if it got damaged or bent?

Depends on the car, some cars can give you all sorts of issues if the air filter doesn't sit properly in its housing.

Could you give me a few of the signs I should lookout for just in case? I figure that since he was trying to move the housing around and not the actual filter sponge, the filter would also have moved with the housing and therefore still be placed correctly, is this logic correct?

Besides the visual inspection? Just drive the car, if it doesn't bahave funny and doesn't throw any lights on the dash you are good.

Yes to the second part.

If the filter is clogged, damaged or doesn't allow air through then you'll notice loss of power or jerkiness because of incorrect air/fuel mixture. Your fuel usage will shoot up as well.

If none of those 2 signs produce in the next few days then you're all good, nothing to worry about.'

You can always remove the air filter, inspect it and re-fit it for peace of mind. They're a bit tough and can take a few knocks since it's job is just to filter out large particles from the air before sending it onwards to be burned along with fuel.

Indeed so - we all have our relative areas of expertise, built up over years of practice & honing our skills, and we make sure we do the work we are tasked to do to the best of our abilities - but, just like you wouldn't want 'unskilled labour' operating on you in a hospital when going in for surgery, the same should also hold true for any complex mechanical device as well, be it a motor car, a computer, cell-phone, aircraft or any other modern technological marvel that we all utilise on a frequent basis, where safety is a requirement.

Where did you go to in order to have your battery replaced? Was it a proper 'battery fitment centre' or was it an 'all-in-one' parts fitment centre, that also supplies & fits tyres, shocks & exhausts, as well as batteries?
