What kinds of car mods can be applied to a car without making it look Ghetto?

Is there any point in putting on an aftermarket air filter on a car that is 2005+?
Will it actually make a difference at all?

What are some non ghetto car mods?

Car Seat covers?
Subwoofer? Is there any point in owning a subwoofer unless you wanna wake up half the neighborhood? Does it actually improve audio quality etc?

Air filters add no performance what so ever, it does ad a deeper intake grunt.

Seat covers, spinners, massive spoilers and big vinyls look ghetto.
Depends on what music you like and what your car audio sounds like standard, and you don't have to put in a huge one to get little bit of extra bass and no one says you have to put it at ear bleeding levels

Subwoofer combined with proper speakers makes a difference....and there is no need to wake up the neighbours either. Other than that, no.

unless you are doing a serious modification there is no point modifying a car

What car?

Air filter - depending on the car, that would probably just add some sound. nothing wrong with that though.
Sub woofer - I enjoy some extra bass. my car insulates sound quite well so with the windows up, you can hardly hear a thing from the outside. 1x 12" 650x2 RMS with a 900wRMS mono

Other "non getto" mods i think would be a legal tint on the windows, better rims to improve the look and go for an exhaust upgrade if you want.

Then you are mostly just wasting your money. Before you think I don't understand, I have a modified car. However people modifying corsa lites and the like just make noise. (I used to have one, unmodified thank heavens, was a terrible car)

Without making it look Ghetto, you should not change anything on the exterior.

Depending on the car, air filter gives ZERO performance increase on N/A cars, however on turbocharged cars, you will have a small performance increase

Unless you can reprogram and re-tune the ECM of the car, then any engine modifications are likely to make less power and use more fuel. If you really want to waste money on mods then start with wheels for better grip, then suspension, then brakes.

Zactly, the ECU will keep adjusting the fuel ratio and timing to compensate for the differences your mods make to keep them at factory values. If you do something you need to go balls deep, not half assed.

Oh... I didn't know that, eh, goodbye mods then.

Does rim size affect handling?
A quick google search returned that the bigger you go the less comfortable your ride is, but I'm sure there's more to it than that.

What about tyres?

I'm not an audiophile, can you get a decent sub for under R1000? What else do you need? Equalizer? Atm I just have front speakers and 2x in the backboard.

All the stuff you mentioned will make it look and/or sound zef. Or "ghetto" as you put it.

Remember to add a Die Antwoord sticker on the back.

The bigger the rims the smaller the tires become to keep the overall wheel size the same. This means there is less air in the tires to cushion bumps.

If its a turbo car a chip tuning will do wonders.

The wider the tyre = more grip. This might affect standing still and trying to turn the wheel, but hey power steering. Also bigger tyres and rims will affect the speedometer slightly so try keep the overall size the same and it will also affect your ABS if the size is different

Spend the money that's burning a hole in your pocket on buying dinner for someone you fancy. You'll get far more mileage out of that than blowing money on crap that doesn't actually do anything for your car.
