you can modify a car without making it look ghetto. If you were in DBN it would have been cheap !

get a small exhaust tip for R30-R50 in chatsworth , nothing fancy, bolting it on though... you gonna have to ask a friend if you don't have the right tools and know-how.

Get some clip on metal pedals for your interior, Cheap car seats from checkers for like R99 or R200.

Depending on what color your standard rims are, get some nice looking wheel caps, lastly, if you have a China plaza close to you, you can try find an auto bots sticker and pluck it in the center on the back of your boot.

those things are in high demand in dbn , someone stole my sisters black and silver one at the bosch garage

try get HID lights for your car, the kits around R400-R500. Gives you that crystal lights look, that seems to be the in-thing now plus it doesn't actually look tooooo bad hey

It comes down to how much $$$$ you got to blow.

personally I only have the wheel caps, exhaust tip and yellow/ silver autobots badge at the back. It doesn't look ghetto .... it looks different

For sound, just please don't only put in tweeters..... it sounds really bad from outside and people will laugh at you.
I don't have my sound box in the boot, but have a usb mp3 player. I don't need sound as road trip is only 5 mins every day. No sub but only 2x 6x10 speakers in a box. No need to wake up the neighbourhood

Don't : put racing brand stickers on the side body panel / back windscreen / top of windscreen of the car if you have a stock car
neons on the outside if your car is stock on rims/ suspension / body / exhaust
just put in tweeters and leave it at that, people will laugh at you and think you have a hearing problem :D:D:D:D:D
* please im begging you on that last one *

Like how subwoofers are for low frequency sounds, tweeters are for high frequency sounds.

On the sticker part, not sure if you've seem some Polos with the polo horse sticker on the back door, he meant something like that.

Sorry meant Badge, its an actual badge that you can put on the back or front. Looks cool , i got the yellow and silver one (yellow car with black bumpers)

you don't need a big sub to get the boom ! a good amp + speaker + small sub combo can do the same job.

if you can get nice rims it will make a difference, black + silver rims will look sexy on the getz.

Cut cam? What is this?
Exhaust I can get behind that.
Drop kit, no thanks, not really a fan of that.
Nice wheels, definitely, but only if the reqs ITT mentioned earlier are met like the other guys mentioned.

Got any pics of the type of rims I should use? Does it even matter what color the car is vs the rims?

Okay, but enough of that now, let's talk budget sound.

Do I absolutely need an equalizer?
Is a sub with 420 RM good? (12")
How much will it cost for a sub box?
How much will installation cost?
I don't have an aftermarket deck so that needs to be taken into account.

I don't want to be rude, but you need to do some research- a lot of it. I'd suggest shelving any ideas and saving money unitl you have a better idea of what is what and what you want to do. The alternative being that you spend money that you will regret later. Join a decent car club/forum, go to a few meet & greets, talk to the guys, read their build threads, trawl the technical sections of car forums, then decide what you want.

I don't think there is a Getz club... It's not exactly like Audi :p

Either way, I don't know anything about cars so... Where to start other than the only motoring section I know (this one)

Doesn't have to be a local forum- can be international too - http://www.hyundai-forums.com/getz-forum/
Also doesn't have to be brand specific either. VWCSA for instance is a large local VW club and a very nice place to be.

Depends... You get HID bulbs specifically made for reflector housings (and not projectors) with the little covers on top of the globe for proper cut-off same as you get for halogen bulbs. This is why one needs to do research.

except that noone has these, they are junk pieces (show me legit philips bulbs like this), and every ****er on the street puts bulbs intended for projectors into their reflectors and fog lights, blinding oncoming traffic, and decreasing their lighting performance at the same time.

there are more to proper functioning HID bulbs that a little cap on the top/front. the most important one is physics.

the only viable option for xenons in a car without, is a proper projector retrofit

Dude, wanna buy my picanto?
Its comes pre pimped,
(stupidly) loud exhuast with giant hole to poke through the rear bumper,
(badly)dropped suspension,
(garbadge) cone filter,
(stupid) tinted windows,
( messy) wiring for subwoofer...... and a porn mag collection under the centre console.......

Seriously dude, its a getz, not a citi golf, just like my picanto wasting your time modding this car, its not really a car with much aftermarket potential, anything you do to it will make it ghetto, and rubbish.....
( next time ask dad for a citi golf)

Small simple mods not a bad idea, changing the interior globes to LED's add value and can see better, nice gps system/headunit replacement useful to have, nice set of rims(if you must) tinting/smash and grab useful to have.....

Learn from others peoples mistakes, the picanto i got had all the above, and slowly but surely im removing all the mods, and returning the car to as much stock as possible so when i sell it i get most of the cash back...

Remember the true cost of a car is what you get back from it, ie if it cost 60k you want to loose as little as possible when you sell it,
Thats the true cost of a car, including any repairs/mods.
Its a getz, anything you do gonna lower its value, i should know the picanto is almost the same thing just smaller.....

If you really into this modding buisness, sell the getz and get a car that got a big aftermarket market, golfs, bm's corsas, tazz, things made in sa and take well to pimping.....

Our korean cars not really built for this, their imported, parts expensive, and not much use in pimping out a repmobile.....

The other two points that no-one's mentioned with regard to tyre sizes are cost and life.

Lower profile and wider tyres are going to cost you a lot more than the standard ones. So going for a bigger rim isn't a one off expense, it'll hit you every time you replace your tyres.

The contact patch between the tyre and the road is the same size whether you have a wider tyre or not (the shape changes, not the area) and the extra grip mostly comes from using a softer compound. This means that wider tyres don't last as long as the standard ones. My Merc used wider tyres at the back (225/50R16 instead of 205/55R16) and I never managed more than 30 000km on a set (often around 20 000km). I switch to the same as the fronts, a small change of only one tyre size, and suddenly started getting 60 000km out of the rears too. So bigger tyres aren't going to last you as long as the standard ones.

Add to this the fact that the lower profile tyre also offers less protection against potholes, greatly increasing the chances of a rim being damaged, and indeed the tyre blowing, and it doesn't really make a hell of a lot of sense to go for bigger rims and wider tyres.

Oh, I nearly forgot - the wider tyres may well handle a bit better in the dry (but lets be honest - how often do you even get close to the limit on a public road anyway), but they're far more likely to aquaplane in the wet. The wider the tyre the more difficult it is to remove the standing water, and with the condition of our roads with rutting allowing water to pool on the road, I'd far rather have a narrower tyre that can cut through the water without floating on top of it. This is even more true for a small light car like yours.
No

A wider tyre has more contact surface.

And how does a person get only 20k km out of a set of tekkies?

I never get less than 60k on a set of tyres.

I would run new speakers in the doors. That Getz factory sound system is horrible.

Any decent wides will evacuate water just as well as the narrow options. Its about tread pattern not width.
