Hi Guys,

I am looking to buy a laptop and it seems like there are just WAY to many options out there!!! I would very much appreciate some tips... advice... or recommendations. :)

What I am looking for...
Operating System: Windows 7 preferably
Processor: Intel i5 2.4GHz or more
Screen: 15 inch
Memory: Doesn't really matter since it is so cheap these days
Harddrive: 500GB
Graphics: I don't really play games so this is not the most important part.
Price range: Preferably under R8500, but was more aiming towards R7500.

The most important part for me is the quality of the laptop... something that will last. Was mostly looking at Dell and IBM. Acer is also an option, but haven't seen a lot of them out there these days.

Thanks! :)

You haven't seen a lot of Acers but you've seen IBMs?

I bought a Toshiba a couple of months back that fits all your requirements. I paid R5999. I can't recall the model number but you might have a look at them as well.

Toshiba makes great laptops, like the Qosmio, which is a personal favorite of mine.

I've been using a Dell Latitude as my work laptop for the last two years, t worked non-stop and didn't complain once.

But my personal favorite would be an Asus notebook, as I had one for three years & totally abused it. It ran Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Ubuntu Linux, CentOS Linux - basically anything you could throw at it. And now my sister-in-law is using it as her daily work computer. ;)

I am also looking for a laptop exactly in this price range.

I did a search in this place and people mentioned this guy:

http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=7318

R7200

GIGABYTE Q1542N, Intel Core i5 3210M, 2.50GHz Dual Core (L3 Cache: 3MB, 22nm)
4GB DDR3 1333MHz Memory (1x 4GB),
750GB 5400RPM 2.5" SATA HDD,
15.6" LED (1366x768),
Intel HM76,
NVIDIA GT640M (2GB Dedicated) / Intel HD4000 (with NVIDIA Optimus Technology),

and then all the usual stuff.
What you guys think? Good buy? Im worried about Gigabyte build quality, my mate had one and it was very plasticy and cheap.

It's extremely good for the price and comes with a 2 year warranty. The build quality on Gigabyte laptops is pretty good also.

@ Ruan1985 either go for the Gigabyte above or look for a Acer, Dell or Lenovo, ASUS isn't bad either. Also IBM was bought by Lenovo so Lenovo = IBM

Awesome, Thanks guys!

This is a lot op options to look at. The Dell for some reason always jumps out at me, especially the Dell IS5520-I53210-61000. The Acers are also very appealing I have to say, some very good options there.

Will have a more detailed look tonight all of them tonight. :)
