I am interested to find out what modem I have . I have a Acer Aspire one with a built in 3G Modem using Globe Trotter Connect Dashboard . How do I know what the modem is capable of doing and also whether I would be able to use the new Cell C sim in this machine ? Otherwise very happy with the speeds .

Look in the properties for that device, you should find a vendor ID (VID), probably 0x0af0 for Option, and a product ID (PID) which will tell us exactly which Option Globetrotter card you have.

Or maybe the Acer model number?
But i doubt CellC would work unless its one of the newer modem modules.
My HP4510 does not work with CellC's new network, only MTN & VC.

The Option GlobeTrotter HSDPA '7.2 Ready' PC card can be used worldwide, with tri-band HSDPA / UMTS (2100/1900/850 MHz) and quad-band EDGE / GPRS / GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) frequency support.
So dont see it supporting CellC's 900MHZ for HSDPA / UMTS

I have an Option iCon 401 3G modem that uses Globetrotter, not sure if globetrotter is only used on Option modems though...

The "HP un2400 Mobile Broadband Module" does not cover 900Mhz but the "HPun2420 Mobile Broadband Module" does.
Hope this helps.

Is that what you see for the Device Instance Id? What do you see if you change the drop down to Hardware Ids?

Can you find any Option or Globetrotter devices or a USB Composite Device in the Universal Serial Bus controllers section? What are their hardware ids?

What you are looking for is a string similar to the one below from a Huawei modem:
USB\VID_12D1&PID_1003\5&CBF664E&0&3

Otherwise, what does Device Info in MDMA show you?

The GTM380 is a third generation PCI Express MiniCard module designed for mobile operator infrastructure equipment. Delivering fast HSUPA speeds up to 2.0Mbps and HSDPA speeds up to 7.2Mbps it is ideal for applications with high uplink bandwidth requirements such as video surveillance and uploading large files. It is also backwards compatible for lower data rates.

Specifications here:
http://www.option.com/en/products/products/modules/gtm380e/specifications/#start

Doesn't look like it does UMTS 900. :crying:
