Hi folks

Apologies if this has been asked before...just need to clear up a few things before I go ahead and fork out excessive money on decoder / installation/ package option etc which i might not need

I have recently moved into the cottage on a property (house is occupied by other tenants) for a 3 month stay ( might be 6 months at most).
There is a decoder unit w/out smartcard and single line feed into it which previous tenants must have left behind.
However I do not see a sat dish attached to cottage only one on main house so i am assuming this was a split feed or somehow was connected to the main house sat dish.

The person renting the cottage out is acting on behalf of landlord who is overseas indefinitely and cannot furnish me with any details re previous renter, dstv setup, etc

1. From my discussions with dstv agents ( not v helpful at all! ) i cannot use the decoder as i dont have smartcard nor any previous clients details, id no,etc. Is this correct?
If not, what can i do to activate this decoder and sign up for some package?
can I use the main house sat dish or will i need to get completely new installation for cottage?

2. If I need to sign up for completely new dstv dish install, is there a firestick or usb type option to view dstv and if so what is cost and how do i go about setting this up?

Just looking for cheapest short term solution , not interested in signing up for 24 month contract that i can only use for a few months and will be paying off for next 2 years!

Thnks in advance

1. It is correct that you cannot use that decoder, dstv links the decoder and smartcard together. They also want proof that the decoder is yours and wasn't stolen, so they will not issue you a new smartcard to that decoder. Best is to buy a new one from retailer which includes the installation. They subsidize the installation cost into your monthly fee. So you pay minimal for installation fee.

2. I am not aware of any usb option. You can use DSTV now to watch your channels online/ cellphone once you subscribed.
