After you have met your monthly obligations (bond, credit card, car, etc); accounted for your bank charges and any retirement/pension funds, what percentage of your disposable income do you spend on getting to and from work?

Big changes at work and I'm just looking for a reference to see what other people spend getting to and from work.

I'm currently working from home but I usually spend about 30%+ on travel. A earn cents because I'm still an intern.

Work remotely 50%, her 100% in office

1.5 tank for me, 2 tanks for her.. so about 2.3% of household gross.

Work from home. Also is it just me or should the sign be > not be <?

Otherwise my petrol costs are way down since lockdown. For me and the wife combined we spend less than 5%.

40%+. Drive 220km a day, so I fill my tank roughly every second day. Live in the NW, work in JHB.

This is dumb. Fuel/travelling forms part of your monthly expenses, it doesn't come from disposable income.

This is the equivalent of asking how long a piece of string is...

When I first started working fuel was about a 1/3 of my salary - salary on the lower end and stayed 100km from office

Few years later office moves salary increased etc it was less than 5%

Now work from home - filled my tank twice since hard lock down

All boils down to what you willing to spend

My car maybe gets started two times or moves once a month, maybe, it's not a given. Been WFM for since March 20 and it does not look as if we going back either.

Before Covid, it was quite high - R3500pm in fuel alone. Now I work from home, maybe R900pm, but car repayments and insurance remain the same.

I barely go anywhere with my car. So much so that we've decided to sell one car and keep mine (it's newer and bigger than my partner's).

I'm permanently working from home now so no need for 2 cars.

Before WFH started I used to spend around R1600 on fuel.

Prior to WFH I would spend 2 tanks a month. I live about <4km from my work. Now with WFH, at most it is 1 tank a month for the weekend runarounds.

No, but some of us spend if not more on taxes to fund the payrolled voters.

So where is my carton to link some ancadre looting salary backed by my taxes?

About £50 a month at the moment for a full tank. WFH so my commute is around 5mins from bed to desk every morning.

No idea right now, been working from home since March 2020. They want us all back in the office before it's 2 years, but the 4th wave is on.
